Lovesexy Vinyl. Is it worth it? I have Lovesexy on CD (continuous), cassette, and mp3. I ran accrossed the Vinyl the other day and I was wondering if it was worth purchasing, $6.99? My Prince vinyl collection isn't that extensive and I don't know if it's worth adding to. I currently have For You, Prince, Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Around The World In A Day, Batman, and Purple Medley on vinyl and they very rarely get played. Are you ready for Jehovah's return? Cuz if you not *holds up TRC*

Of course it is worth adding to your collection, and for $6.99 even more so.
So long as someone has not had their dinner off of it, go for it.

Vinyl is always worth it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The rationale behind questions like this one is totally beyond me. I mean, how old are you? Will you buy the record if 2 or 3 orgers say yes? Will you spend your bucks on other things if they'd say 'no'? Really?
Or are you interested in facts? The Lovesexy album is a black disc made from vinyl. You need a record player to play it. Oh, and the music is the same as on the CD and cassette. Is that what you were asking for?
6.99 isn't a lot of money either, is it? Why don't you just buy it and see how it feels? Or you could spend the money on some beers, ice cream, or maybe a nice watch at the cinema. Or on the latest George Michael album, if you add some more. But HOW THE HELL do you think will anybody except yourself know what's better for you??? Goddamn!
There are people here with 20 different pressing of each album, and others who only have a bunch of files on their laptops. How about starting to make up an own opinion?? People don't even know if you like the damn album or not, do they?
Hell, I'm done with my rant now. But bullshit like this is just incredible. Peace.

someone hasn't had their plus sign today!! I'd get it if the vinyl is in good nick. am trying to get all the old LPs on vinyl so I can take my old tapes to be recycled into N-Dubz CDs. Even if the vinyl's shot then you've got the sleeve - that alone is a big bit of memo to go with I presume ur CD or tape?? Comin str8 outta Preston...

Just keep in mind that the Lovesexy CD was pressed during the pre-loudness war era. I have the CD and a Bernie Grundman mastered vinyl copy (best to be had - check the matrix numbers in the run out grooves - his 2's look like upside down 5's) I would pass on a copy that is not Grundman mastered....
In comparing the two, I conclude that they sound very similar. It's likely the CD was a flat transfer from the master tape (from which the vinyl was pressed).
Glad I have both but could live with either soundwise.

I found the promo of this near the end of last year and knew I had to get it just becuz. I'm not really into LoveSexy like that, but it was for $7.99, was a US promo, NM con., & I enjoyed Alphabet Street So I got it Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

Yes, definitely.
I bought it in very good quality for 1 euro.

I disagree. It depends on the mastering and the source used. There is a legitimate question as to whether Prince's vinyl pressings from the CD era sound better than their CD equivalents. I have compared the vinyl Diamonds and Pearls and Symbol Album to the CD versions, and couldn't tell a difference in sound quality. I can hear a difference in the Black Album. For Lovesexy, the difference is more subtle to my ears.
In any event, whether an original vinyl pressing of Lovesexy sounds better than the original CD is a legitimate question, and it amazes me that some here would rip the OP to shreds for even asking it. The original CDs are not as loud as later CDs, but that is a good thing. The OP doesn't list Controversy among the Prince albums he has on vinyl. Are you saying the OP should spend that $6.99 on Lovesexy even if a vinyl copy of Controversy is next to it in the bin for the same price? Lovesexy was released on both CD and vinyl the same year, whereas Controversy was originally released on vinyl only, because WB did not start selling CDs until two years later.
Of course no one can tell the OP whether he would prefer to buy a vinyl Lovesexy over some beers or ice cream. But we ought to be able to offer some advice on which albums are most essential to have on vinyl because of differences in sound quality compared to the CD. Since we have no remasters, this question needs to be resolved for those of us who do not have an infinite budget for music purchases. Interesting. Steve Hoffman made a comment in an interview relating to that:
"An important feature of good vinyl mastering is that there are rules for mastering; you cannot go crazy and add too much treble or the needle will jump right out of the groove, and you cannot add too much bass or the needle will jump out of the groove and the record will be over in three minutes. So engineers (even the deaf ones) have to follow the rules and most LPs sound good."

It's hard to imagine Bernie Grundman making that kind of mistake. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I have them on every format.
To be honent, I only bother to play the tracked CD. Audiophiles may disagree, but even through my 13 speaker pro car sound system, they all sound old. A remaster is needed.
