I just heard "Damn I wish I was Your Lover" by Sophie B Hawkins on the radio (hit from 1992) and I thought...this could be a Prince song! The writing and the mood of the song is so like Prince. I remember that I really liked this song back in the day but then I did not think it was like a Prince song at all! Any other share this? Or think of any other songs, not by Prince, that sound like Prince songs?

The minute that I first heard that song, I thought to myself that it had "Prince" written all over it.

Really liked this song...what happened to Sophie B Hawkins, never heard of her before or since.

That's not a Prince song, but yeah, Sophie is still out there doing her thing, her live album from a couple years ago was fantastic.

Doesn't sound like anything Prince would've done. And this was from a real life bisexual artist talking about wanting to be another woman's lover (which for its time was out there). I love the song.

she is one of my favorite artists.. her first album 'tongues and tails' was a killer.

whaler was great too...

she had a big hit off that one 'as i lay me down'.

she took the independent route and still performs.. i saw her a few years ago in provincetown, she was excellent.

she is playing in redwood city, ca in june.. i will definitely be there.. i love me some sophie b.

Tongues & Tails is a classic, Whaler is just ok. But what about her 3rd album "Timber"? EXCELLENT.

If you meet Sophie you can ask her if she's into Prince and if he influenced the song;) Have fun at the concert!
