Prince Taking a Break From Recording. Hmmm...

During the George Lopez interview, Prince said he was in "recording rehab", and was taking a break from recording...

A little while back, I posted something expressing my concern regarding whether (or when) we would hear some new release(s).

It had been reported that Prince had three albums worth of new stuff after 20ten, and I had predicted we might not hear it. Looks like we won't at this point, and his break from recording puts another question mark in the picture...

Previously, I brought up distribution methods for new (physical) releases, and what was left as far as an available method for Prince.

Some folks here will say he should take a break from recording, and I would just say that Prince knows what's best for him, BUT...

Ijuswannahearsomenewstuff.

Release it P... otherwise, I'll have to release my own and provide some competition.

; )

Its just a matter of time whether this will be true or just one of his whims. Good for him either way.

Nice to see you again, Giovanni smile

You're about to receive angry posts from hardcore orgers who will tell u that Prince has said this a number of times before but didn't mean it....remember the 1993 mention of 'retirement'....thankfully that was not true.

Music is in his blood, i very much doubt he will be taking any such break, even if he did he deserves it with all the work he's done, but I doubt he sees it as work and will do what the spirit tells him.

I think he have enough material left from what he recorded/wrote in 2010/2009.. So that's why he maybe needed a break?

Don't think you need to take it very seriously.. Music is his passion.. cool

I heard this story about ´studio rehab´ some years ago, and, Prince doesnt seem to be the workaholic he was in the 80s and 90s. I hope he is happy.

Of course, I love to hear any Prince´s music, but I wouldnt mind if he took some 2 years break and come with a GREAT album in physical format and a tour to promote it (I am already bored about this "mediocre newspaper album + ´hits´ tour" routine).

If it's true that he has 3 albums worth of material ready to go then he really doesn't need to be recording anything right now. It's also been said by J.Monae & E.Spalding that they've jammed with him in studio prior to the W2a tour starting(more material). There's been new songs played on the tour(W2A, Black Muse & Gingerbread Man) and they probably have studio versions already. He's probably set for the next 2 years if he keeps his track of a new release every year or somewhat. Plus there's been talk of something this June coming out on here. We'll probably see something new by end of summer.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

"Gingerbread Man" isn't a new song. It's just an interpolation of "Electric Man" that was played during the Christmas season.

And in a matter of weeks, days, hours, or even minutes after this statement he could very well be off wildly and desperately trying to chase down that muse, rendering these declarations as flaccid as Trump's political aspirations.

I wish he would be less defensive. I wish we would all be less defensive.

It's among the greatest honors when people cover your work. And even if some shit on everything you do without spending the time, or in some cases, even one lousy dime, their words can only hurt when you know them to be true.

No one is always great. That's part of what makes us human. I hope he just keeps writing. If he does, he could end up filling a thousand youtube's worth of people passionately singing his praises. So much so that they just might drown out the litigation.

Or he can just keep trying to control more and more until he becomes a bitter old man who dies thinking that no one respects him. “No one talks about my music anymore!” That's right, Prince. They've all been sworn to silence.

And by silencing everyone, you shut out the possibility of there being any constructive criticism or non-fluffy praise that might lead to growth.

Save for that somewhat wobbly bridge that airs too much specificity to give full breath to others (which could be his current reality in microcosm), "Future Soul Song” I believe would be one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. As it is, it's doves crying while caught in all but the most effortless of flight.

Absolutely awe-inspiring in shifts that ultimately may or may not mean anything.

The conversation was based on recording, as it started with how many songs Prince has in the vault... For Prince, writing IS recording.

HA! Coulda fooled me the way he was dancing in the European leg of his current tour! I even saw a couple of spins.

Anyway... Even if that were so, I don't see how that would stop him from recording (except for the drum kit).

I would honestly prefer Prince taking five years away from the studio and then releasing something special to his last several albums.

Ah, you're from Toronno, would like to have seen this when I was working over there!

Hi - time away is not the issue, he hardly had any time away between this albums in the 80s, I don't think it will solve things. I would also miss having an album from Prince on a yearly basis, i don't know how MJ or Kate Bush fans manage!!

You hit on something that has always been nagging at me. A lot of people say they want "something special" or "a classic album" from Prince. This implies that the person making the statement knows what that music would sound like and what Prince should do to achieve it. My question is then, why hasn't someone else made this elusive Prince CD that everyone should be dying to hear? If you know what it should sound like and what should be done to make it then why not do it yourself?

Very good point HonestMan13...every time I switch on the radio and hear all the commercial trash that is called 'music' I think "I could do much better than this", its a good challenge!

Since joining the ORG I've read the phrase "Prince by the numbers" several times. Well if it's that simple to make a Prince song then why hasn't everyone done it already and acheived that same level of fame and recognition. I refuse to believe it's that easy and that it's that easy for Prince. Keep in mind for every one song he puts out there's probably ten that he doesn't feel deserve to be released.

...thanx!
