Per Nielsen background with Prince

I read the book DMSR by Per Nielsen a long time ago. Can someone update me on what his actual background with Prince is? I remember his detailing of Prince's recording to be astoundingly

thorough yet when he had the opportunity to praise Prince's work many times it came off sounding condescending or like he had a secret love/hate relationship with him. Is there a picture of this guy somewhere? Thanks so much.

Yes his work is extremely detailed and well researched to the point of obsession (you almost felt he was going to say what time of day Prince goes to the toilet), but very useful for us fans. I really wish he'd put his efforts into completing his Prince biography to cover 1989-date though, as his more recent years are not so well known about.

Per was/possibly still is a member here on the org.

Last year he was selling a few extra copies of his "The Vault" book on here, I was lucky enough to get one from him, and he told me (and I think a couple of other orgers) via email, that he had no interest in following or updating any of his books.

He told me that he did a lot of travelling, and wanted to concentrate on that.

Nice guy.

It's a pity he got off the boat...

Without him, I'm living in informative darkness since 2004, the last year covered by his surveys. There's info, but not so well researched, ordered and explained.

Whoever knows Per.....persuade him to continue with work on Prince...its already 50% done....it can be his life's work. Out of all the authors on Prince he seems to be most accurate and most well researched.

That is the beauty of such books as DMSR and The Vault, they are factual, not just gossip tombs based on rehash and rumour.

Maybe he will take up writing about Prince again....one day. I for one would be eager to purchase such a book.

While the years from 2002 onwards hold little interest for me musically, having detailed information on this time of Prince's career in the diary style of the first part of The vault book would be very welcome.

Which Per Nielsen book is the MOST informative or recent? Was Turn It Up 2.0 the last release?

I think that's awesome. I hope he stays away from all things Prince, it's a sickness! lol

I am curious about someone who took on such a painstaking effort to document Prince. He seems mysterious to me. I want to see him !

It was great when housequake.com had his reviews posted for each album. Does he have an online presence anywhere?

Do not expect volume 2 of DMSR. Per has zero interest in it. It was very time consuming and he has moved on. Great guy and really knows his Prince info, but Per/Uptown are done.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

He told me the same. He did say, however, that if someone was interested in taking up the mantle, he'd be all for it and be willing to provide help with access to his research if there was serious interest. Alas, he said no one has bothered.

He also said that he's not considering making a downloadble version available. He said that it wouldn't be fair to the people who have paid a lot of money on ebay and elsewhere for it in the last several years. I think the logic of that is completely backwards, but there you have it.

Someone, someday will put it online, though. I'm sure of it.

Wow - he's offering someone to take up the mantle smile smile smile?! Sounds interesting.

However, someone needs to persuade him this is his life's work and that he should complete it. He will make loads in time as well as there's no serious contender biography wise.

Per Nielsen did an astonishingly good work on documenting Prince's career, no question about that. But I think people overlook the contributions of other members of the Uptown team, and specifically the input of jooZt was very large, particularly in the book The Vault.

For the record, jooZt continues actively working on this, and he's involved (together with other people) in the www.princevault.com website, which from many points of view can be considered as the inheritor of the book The Vault, and is becoming, de facto, the most updated and complete encyclopedia of Prince online.

Just my two cents (and I have nothing to do with either Uptown or Princevault).
