This could've been true years ago, but it's not true right now. The shows right now are not up to par and, IMO, they haven't been in the 2000s at all. The last tour I personally liked was the 96 Gold tour. Not to say there hasn't been a good show here and there since then, but it sounds basically the same from 1997-2011.

Prince should try only putting 2-3 hits in his setlist and then making up the rest as he goes along. He's stated, succinctly, that he puts the hits in the setlist to appease the fans.

and he says "it is a different show every night" huh I have seen too many of the same set lists to believe that!

Exactly. I don't know why Prince fans still fall for that different show BS. It's only different in very small ways (ways that could not be exactly reproduced each night) but the setlists have been almost exactly the same for the last 3 years. Where is the difference here?

I had the same point of view that the shows would not be great, that is until I saw the NYC MSG show and the final South Carolina show. Yeah, I've been to a 'greatest hits' show for Prince & The NPG but, it was still fun / cool / to go. I became a fan during Emacipation Era so I missed the 96 shows you speak about, save the Jam of The Year shows which were 'greatest hits' shows too.

I completely agree with you on the last part ...

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

The first Prince show I saw live was on the JOTY tour and the last Prince show I saw live was in Oakland on the Welcome 2 America tour. I can tell you, for real, that the vibe was almost the same. They were FANTASTIC shows to be at - I really got lucky at every show I've been to in the past 14 years. However, they are not nearly as different as, say, Purple Rain Tour and Newpower Soul Tour... or Dirty Mind Tour and The Ultimate Live Experience Tour. Tours that are 14 years apart from each other but vary greatly and I don't just mean the obvious ways, but also in sheer creativity.

IMO...
