The New Power Trio From "Chaos & Disorder" up through "Wall of Berlin" what tracks feature the so-called New Power Trio (Prince, Sonny and Michael B.)?

The entire Undertaker album is Prince, Sonny and Michael.
As for other tracks, I would have to check, someone will know off hand.
My brain is getting too old for that.

"3121" "From the Lotus" "Back to the Lotus" "Wall of Berlin" "Cybersingle" "All the Midnights in the World"
off the top of my head. | |

?????
What New Power Trio was that then?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The same one as the others.

I think the OP means tracks that are Prince, Sonny and Michael only, with no other musicians?
Does he/she?
I don't know, i'm going to bed.

Yes, that is what the New Power Trio was/is.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
But 3121 has other musicians on it other than them three.

Who? The horn players? Okay. I guess that doesn't count, then.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah, I think there are very few tracks with just the core trio and no one else.

Then I rescind my suggestion of "3121" and, in its place, I put "Peach."

Good one.

Incidentally, I think "Peach" might be the first New Power Trio track ever recorded.

There was also the "Power Trio" of Prince, Cora and Josh, I know they did a gig as that lineup, but I don't recall them recording as such a trio.
I suppose the real Power Trio will always be regarded as Prince, Sonny and Michael.
I would love them to get together again and do something along the lines of The Undertaker.

I think you could be right there.

Oddly on this page http://www.princevault.co...iographies there is no mention of any Power Trio configuration.
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think that makes sense: they were never an official band, just a stripped down lineup used occasionally.

Ahh yes.

I heard the Cybersingle was recorded by Prince only. I would LOVE to hear a studio album with Prince playing with Sonny and Michael only. I dont understand why I didnt like Undertaker much (maybe because of the guitar tone, or the songs). They are my fave rythym section ever.
The bootleg with Prince, Josh and Cora is pretty cool also.
In both cases, I only think that some interaction between the musicians, like on jazz trios (bass solos, etc).

As far as I know, word on AMP around the time of its release was that Prince re-used an old track recorded circa 1995 for "Cybersingle" while adding overdubs and new vocals later.
Of course, this information came from T D'Aquino, so it could be total bullshit.

Is T D'Aquino the "T" from Edel??? A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Yeah, I've read that before, but that doesn't mean it is accurate. There are no sources, it is just presumed to be that way by the author. Other than T's comments about Cybersingle on AMP, I don't recall anyone else having any info about the origins of the song at all.
I am not sure if T is from Edel. I know he worked at Paisley briefly.

Princevault has made mistakes before (who wouldn't considering the crazy task they've chosen?)
About "T", I just know that someone quoted a "T" from Edel recently, out of old late 90's online convos, as being an Edel executive who admitted lthat pple from the label leaked "24" and the "Exodus" outtakes to boots, and released some stuff on Edel without Prince's consent for the sake of owning expensive collectibles later. 3121 did come from basic tracks by "the power trio", so I would count it depsite overdubs of more stuff. I think those three together is a great thing, and Prince uses and mixes up the basic tracks to great effect for later projects and songs. He's a great scavenger of his own things.
They should all go somewhere crazy and record tracks for 2 weeks. Could provide little gems on the next 3-4 albums. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Thanks everyone for the info. I asked this same question offline and combined with what I read here, this is what i have so far; let me know if there are errors or omissions:
Chaos & Disorder Zannalee Peach I Like it There Same December (sounds like keyboards were added however) Dinner with Delores (?) Dolphin (?) The Undertaker Bambi (1995 Remake) Honky Tonk Women Poor Goo Calhoun Square Habibi 3121 (the song, not the entire album) Planet Earth (assuming Prince plays piano) Guitar From the/Back to the Lotus Bomb (?) Crimson & Clover Colonized Mind Love Like Jazz Wall of Berlin Dreamer $
I know a lot of people thought the New Power Trio/New Paisley Trio was derivative or just didn't prefer Prince's rocked-out style, but I was excited about the proposed album since it was first announced back in '94. If this list is accurate there's enough for at least two albums that I think would've been successful. Who knows what could've been...

I'm pretty sure its Cora on Crimson and Clover AND Boom.
EDIT: I take that back. It's Cora and Josh Dunham on Boom and Money, all Prince on Crimson and Clover. [Edited 4/29/11 14:06pm]
Edit2: And put "All the Midnights in the World" on there because that came from the Trio sessions that bore 3121. [Edited 4/29/11 14:07pm]
