Planet Earth Why is this album NOT growing on me yet?!?! I have a FEW select songs I KINDA like off this CD, but just don't "GET IT".. tonight at the bar having an afterwork drink I looked up Prince on the Jukebox and randomly played, "The 1 U Wanna C" and Actually ENJOYED hearing it, on a rather loud jukebox.. The bartender was groovin' a bit too.. and asked if it was something new by Kravitz..LOL.. I'm thinking of burning another copy of Planet Earth for the car and forcing myself a 1/2 a dozen or so listens..

"Future Baby Mama" is pretty fantastic.
The rest is pretty awful. Prince 4Ever.

I don't have much of a problem with this album.
It has one of the best ballads for a long time, Michael B is all over it and I find the album a much easier and more pleasant listen then 20Ten.
However, it's still not even in my top ten.
Give it another few listens, if you still don't like it, then no harm done.

Do whatever but no need to let us know.

I like a lot of the songs individually, probably 75%, a few are even amongst my favourites of the 00s - But as an album, I don't really feel it. It's not very cohesive for me. It does sound like a bunch of tracks collected together, rather than 'a project'.

Great tracks: All The Midnights In The World, Chelsea Rodgers.
The rest ranges from average to crap.

Don't really like most of the tracks on it, i find them to be a bit cheesy to be honest. But the strongest tune on there which i think is a great is Lion of Judah, his guitar work is fab. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.

I like it all, except Chelsea Rodgers and Future Baby Mama [Edited 4/18/11 5:51am] RIP

Same here, not dreadful but not amazing either. Much better than 20TEN in my opinion. 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

I moved from Mexico to France 10 months ago. My "planet earth " went to garbage in the process. No accident.. "The public is wonderfully tolerant. It forgives everything except genius." O.Wilde

I think it's a great album. It's not very cohesive, as someone has said before, and I really dislike the "rock songs" in it, but it has some excellent tunes: Somewhere Here On Earth, Chelsea Rodgers and the last few (which are wonderful pop melodies, à la Around The World In A Day). And Lion Of Judah, musically and lirically, is my favourite Prince song since the mid 90's, or even more.

lol, totally opposite of me. Those two songs stand out to me the most on the album Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

There's NOTHING on this album that I like. My retail copy remains sealed.

Taken by itself, Planet Earth is a fantastic album. IMO, the only song that is a stinker is Lion of Judah.
By comparison, though, he had been releasing material that was WAY STRONGER around the same time. I question why "PFUNK" wasn't on there. Furthermore, its upsetting to know he has tracks like "PFUNK" sitting around yet he chooses to release "Lion of Judah".... I really question his editorial and production values.

If there's nothing on the album that you like, then why do you still have more than one copy?

^Very simple: collecting reasons.
I have the 'lenticular cover' retail version, the giveaway editions for Mail On Sunday and Ireland On Sunday and the concert giveaway coaster. They're all different in packaging.
My Lotusflower 3CD from Target and the French MPLSound standalone edition are sealed as well. [Edited 4/18/11 7:57am]

Those are my thoughts as well. not cohesive at all
It's titled Planet Earth so you would expect a certain direction
If I bought a Prince album with that title I would expect songs like
Everywhere The Sun, The Moon And Stars New World Animal Kingdom Welcome 2 The Dawn Strays Of The World Space And God Created Woman
Planet Earth & Resolution are the only 2 with a connected themes

I think Planet Earth, Guitar, Somewhere here on earth, The One Uwanna C, Chelsea Rogers and Resolution are some of him strongest post Warner material.
If Prince could have controlled his output, a single album of material from Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth would have been his best work for 15 years. Something like this....
Musicology Guitar Black Sweat Somewhere here on earth 3121 A Million days The One U wanna C Chelsea Rogers Call Your Name Fury lolita Cinnamon Girl Love Planet Earth Resolution

I like it because it reminds me of all those outtake collections we used to swap on tapes back in the day. There's a nice Dream Factory vibe on several tracks even if they are not necessarily masterpieces when taken as individual compositions. Pretty happy with it.

"S.H.O.E." brings me to tears with every listen. When Prince performed that song on Jay Leno, let's just say, more tears. Beautiful indeed. As for "Chelsea Rogers", it too brings me to tears, lol. For the love of , I can't figure out what on earth he was thinking with that lil diddle. Otherwise I have no other complaints. Moving right along.

What's the point of collecting music you don't like? If it's not listened to, it's production was a total waste.

I agree but he needed an album to make that "comeback" in 2004 and many of the songs on 3121 and Planet earth were'nt written until later on.
What he should have done is take the best songs on the Chocolate invasion and musicology and combine into one album. Songs like Musicology, A Million Days, When eye lay my hands on u etc
Then combine the best stuff on planet earth and 3121

Really? I only have 13 albums of Prince so far (pretty embarrassing I know...And one of them is a compilation album DX ) but Planet Earth is definitely one of my favorite albums. I was first very addicted to Mr.Goodnight for some reason XD It's just so smooth and catchy! Future Baby Mama is so lovely. The lyrics makes me sad for some reason..."None of them got what it takes, to be a future baby mama......Show me one of them and I'll make her mine with no more drama...." awwwwww =( Planet Earth is so powerful...I love it. And Somewhere Here on Earth...I love the modern jazzy feelings from this song. I saw him sing this song on Jay Leno and it sounded even more beautiful live...

I've been listening to Prince since 1986. I've bought all his albums. More than anything, it's a habit.
Prince was my favourite musician for a lot of years so even if he's been making garbage for years I'm still buying his albums.
It puzzles me that it's not easy to see.

I tend to agree with the majority on this one - Planet Earth has a few nice tracks here and there and is weighed down by more than a few lame songs.
The production, however, is warm and pleasant - I definitely like the vibe. It's just that as an album, it doesn't flow very well and there's really no thematic consistency. I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

I haven't listen to the album in years. I suppose Future baby mama is ok and Somewhere here on earth and Planet Earth is alright, when reflexing on it all. Gonna give it another try. FUNKNROLL! "February 2014, wow". 'dre.
