anyone else annoyed by the addition of the dj in the npg?

this dj is of no use!!!is it me or does it seem to take away the direction that he was going in(finally making mature music)? one of the reasons why i loved trc so much was that it did not have any annoying hip hop scratches in any of the songs like many of his previous projects.

As long as it doesn't become the center of attention and as long as Prince doesn't try anymore immitation hip/hop, the dj won't bother me at all.

I love Prince´s music, and I love Hip Hop, but I love
both too much to tolerate bullshitting with both.
The DJ is unnecessary. His (stupid) scratching during
tunes like SignOtheTimes ruined the songs. And it´s
an insult to real HipHopDeejaying (and to Prince´s music).

HipHop loves Prince, and Prince loves HipHop to some extent,
but that doesn´t mean that the occasional rapping or scratching is any improvement of Prince´s jams. More
on the contrary.

my point exactly! it was painful to listen to "the everlasting now" and "the work" w/that awful scratching..it felt like i was listening to "love 2 the9's" or any of his songs that contain scratching..really takes away from the music..

i think it is revolutionary to have a dj with his band. I mean this is 1990 isn't it? What! It is 2003! Wow. He's behind the times as usual.

sorry my watch must have stopped.

DJs arent musicians and I would rather not be subjected to them in Prince's music. I saw him onstage with the NPG on the Tonight Show about I could hear anything that he was contributing. Why have him at all?

It does seem strange that Prince gets the band so tight and has all the fans really diggin the new band and THEN throws in a DJ ?!?!?

I thought Prince had left that back in 93 along with Tony M, etc.

He's done that - why bring the DJ back???

Er.. I think it was one of those temporary surprises for The Las Vegas show.

Note the emphasis: Temporary. Dj's scratching seems to hurt singers vocals in concert and help those of the rappers.

I'd much rather see and hear another guitar player and/or another voice. Someone like Mike Scott(again), or Dawn Robinson.

I'm always annoyed when I see this DJ. Is this the same guy who does the Cele gigs etc...at PP. This guy is bad. I was shocked to see the DJ in the Vegas clip, actually I was disappointed. I hope this doesn't become a habit again.

What are you all talking about? I know there was dj in the downloads of previous years. Is there new music to download? or are you just talking about the Vegas show? I couldn't get the Vegas clip to work for me. My Internet explorer is not working..

Let the Djs spin mixes at the afterparty..

DJs were more special when they worked alone. I loved when Djs created radio mixes on Friday and Saturday nights.

I continue to play mixes that I recorded years ago from the radio.

Prince needs to pay his DJ to create a nice Mix party CD for The NPGMC. I know that Brother Jules created one, but he overdubbed his own beats into his mixes.

I'd much rather P save the $ for Sheila, Eric, Maceo, and a guitarist who can play rhythm lines and sing. Sonny T., Miko, Levi, Dez, Andre, Wendy sang. Their singing allowed him to give a complete performance of a song. Now his audience is his backgound. Their singing provided some extra power to his live performances which set them apart from the CD versions. This void is the reason for Prince having Marva King as his only background singer during his career. Rosie Gaines and Boni Boyer played some Organ at least.

Although Sheila sangs background vocals last month, I doubt that she will be a "regular" in the NPG.
