Im talking on the level of playing funk and with a lively band with dancers and all...you have to do a little bit more .. yes I meant at the same time. Hell Birttney cant even do any of those things when she was a teenager and full of energy...she still was not singing live and still isnt to this day...that goes for just about all pop performers these days though. prince likely does care about being on the radio but probably not nearly as much as he did 20 years ago, he's been there, done that. Besides no one seems to answer me, what the f--k is so special about radio when no talents like britney, rihanna, and black eyed peas? If you really believe that that music is better than say Lotus or 3121 then you need help. It doesnt matter whether prince is on the radio or not. What matters is that he puts out good songs.

Regardless of who's on the radio, it's been completely taken over by Corporate America. There isn't a DJ in the country-aside from small independent stations- who really plays what he/she wants. Those days are long gone and advertising, aka, the "Bottom Line", is king. Sure it would be nice to hear him on the radio more, but the medium is essentially programmed from a corporate office no where near your radio station. Prince has long been controversial and independent minded--and therefore, not radio friendly. I have wondered why he doesn't sign something with XM/Sirius for a Prince channel or something. That would make SO much sense. Playing nothing but Prince, The Time, etc. and having some interview shows, some outtakes, some live shows... and he's getting paid for it all? What's not to like?

no, not at all. What is on the radio these days? Complete garbage. Songs like Black Sweat and Sticky like glue are better than anything on the radio
If the radio only accepts good music, then what are so many no talents doing there? |

Right.. The public has ZEROE control over what gets played on the mainstream radio.. and Prince KNOWS this and the motives behind this.. This is destroying the music industry among other things and Prince does not support that I would not either.. He loves creating music and I LOVE his music and thats all I need.

If he really didn't care if he's ever played on the radio again, he wouldn't have made a rediculous shit hop sellout song like "Laydown". Andy is a four letter word. |

Well Im not sure why he cares...obviously he does if he said that. Really his fanbase are us....I mean yeah there are still casual fans out there, but the people who are actually going to buy his stuff are us..and I'm really unsure as to why he still thinks the radio cares about his new music..other than KMOJ
I assume you live near the Twin Cities, but the Current plays his songs pretty regularly - and it's not the hits from 82-86. I've heard "Planet Earth", "Mr Man", "I Wanna Be Your...", "When You Were Mine", and of course "Cause and Effect" more than once. You think he added a hidden track onto an album that never got released in the United States so it would go on radio?
That's a stretch even for Prince. I love the song, but it was made for us not radio. "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham |

^Say what you want in his defense. That's very nice of you, but that doesn't mean that Prince wouldn't love being all over the radio.
Any artist would LIKE to have airplay and get more exposure for their art, that doesn't mean they care enough to do what it takes to get there...Prince has that attitude, take me the way I am or leave me, I don't care.
OK, he can sell out medium/small-sized venues, but record-wise Lotus/MPLS or Indigo Nights ended up nearly being given away.
I don't know about you, but I'd rather sell out medium/small venues anyday than worrying about selling a cd for $5-$10 bucks TBH. I mean, 1 concert like MSG and he sells out 20,000 tickets, which is how much money? Selling cds don't bring you nearly as much money as live shows do!
One of these days, Target will pay some money to those willing to get a Lotus Flower set as a store-clearance-help fee. Just wait and see.

I don't get it, why does it matter? I don't care about the success. So long he is making music, and doing concerts.. I'm fine with it. I don't give a shit about outsell huge venues or great selling albums from 4 million.
Prince's W2A tour was #2 grossing so far!! Who was #1? Lady Gaga, and not by much. And she is "mainstream." So if he is making mega bucks right up there with mainstream people who have a record contract and who the record companies pay millions to promote, then I'd say "Prince you're doing fine babe, don't change a bit!" Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol |

Well, how many other artists do do all those things and sell out 15,000+ venues. Most artists selling that big of venues are lipsinging and not playing their own instruments. Any people playing live lately is lucky to sell out a coffee house! Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol |

Exactly!!! Prince has been making those kind of songs forever now! That song is a hot song and should have been played on the radio. And probably would have had he released it in the US! But that is not going to happen. Honestly, what planet are some of you on. If you are not with a major label you do not get on the radio and an artist P's age has a even harder chance if they do have a record deal.
He is keeping it real and some of you need to try it.
Prince was on a major label for at least some of the last few albums and he was still not played so what planet are you on? And if you really believe Prince doesn't care about being on the radio, you are as delusional as he is.
Maybe he use to care but does not anymore because he knows it is not going to happen. If you do not understand this than you are the one that is delusional. |

Was honestly shocked by that moment. This is certainly a far cry from what he said on 07/07/07:
"Call your radio station, tell them it's okay to play me even though I'm not on a record label! This is the one they missed..."
Either he has given up, he is joking or he sees that revenue from radio royalties is not so interesting compared to his other sources of income (newspaper-CD deals, concerts, etc).
