Long time ago, when I was just getting into Prince and Napster was every college student's favorite friend, I was in the midst of downloading every unreleased Prince track that was on Napster. I don't have the song anymore, but I do remember downloading a remix of the Prince song Tangerine, where someone had laid the vocals to Tangerine on top of the instrumental to the Common song "Communism" (http://youtu.be/PenWJ6YGmKY). I remember how perfectly it lined up and how the chords (whch are actually from a Freddie Hubbard song) went with the vocals. I'm thinking it was fan made, because you could barely make out the music to Tangerine buried in the mix (which also went with the instrumental), but then the whole jazzy vibe seemed like the direction he headed in around that time with TRC and ONA so back then I was under the impression Prince was just throwing stuff out there on Napster without any claim to the work (this is stretching it a bit, I know, since he did officiallly release a song via Napster).

I'm not asking anyone to send it to me (should this be unreleased or whatever), but has anyone else ever heard this? Otherwise I might make it myself, if someone can help me extract the vocals from Tangerine. Can't provide a link to the song Tangerine, but I'd be surprised if anyone who had a username to this "useful" site didn't already have the song in their possession.

I haven't heard the version you're talking about, but there is an extended version of Tangerine on Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic (vs. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic).

I'm familiar with the extended version with the guitar solo, but the one in question was from Rave Un because it clocked in around the same time as the Common track (although someone looped it on the Youtube clip to make it longer)

I've heard it. I've always hated remixes like that where someone just adds music on top of the music that's already there. 2 me, a real remix means using an acapella version of the song (vocals only) and composing an all new music bed.
