I think its adorable how people think that just because an issue doesn't affect them directly, then it's not worth anything to anyone else! He's a musician - he comments on subjects that affect musicians, it should be no surprise.

Agreed - I think Prince should get more credit from fans for standing up for Artist's rights

What so many people on here seem to want to overlook is that...

Prince isn't telling any other how to deal with people wanting to cover their songs.

He want it to be approved by asking the original artists permission.

That would in effect limit even his own ability to do recorded covers in the future as he too would have to ask permission first and risk being denied.

Any other artist could allow as many covers of their work as they want to or deny as much as they want to. It would be a individual choice(not Prince's Law).

Saying he wants covers 'outlawed' is basically saying he wants no one to ever have the right to record a cover or seek a way to record a cover ever again. That was not his statement.
