The Dance Electric Prince version??

Hello, I´m wondering; does there exist a Prince version, demo or studio version, of the fabulous track The Dance Electric? Is it very different from the Andre Cymone version or could it be even funkier?? I really like Cymone´s version as well, but I´m just thinking about how Prince would have done it and believe it would be even better. And, BTW, is there any words about why Prince gave this song away and didn´t put it out himself??

Andre's version IS Prince's version. It's exactly the same, Andre just recorded his vocals over Prince's. You can still hear Prince, Lisa and Wendy in the background vocals.

All I'mma say about it is this: if u like Andre's version, u're gonna love the Prince and The Revolution version of it. Prince took that song to a whole nother level with the extended piece. I'm not gonna give that away but, it's tight. I think that song would have been great for a real follow up to Purple Rain. It's extended, it's longer than the released version by Andre (which was an edit version).

Check out the boots Cosmos, Jewel Box, iVault, Revelations or The Work, but Work It 2.0 has the best quality that I know of - still, not great.

Prince's version is great and nearly 12 minutes long. Pure sick MPLS funk from start to end. Classic.

I don't think so, but my guess would be that he knew that it was a great track but that it wouldn't fit the next project, so to get it out there still, he gave it to Andre.

Freekclaassen

he also played it live in may 86, recordings exist of San Fransisco and Los Angeles.

In addition to Squirrelgrease's answer, it is also on Purple Rush vol 7, in comparable quality to Work It (in my ears at least).

If it ever got an official release, Prince would probably spoil it by playing a sample of "Dear Mr Man," in the intro...just like he spoiled Movie Star with a sample of Jam of the Year.

Since Andre is about to release AC on CD which has the track Dance Electric, this would be a perfect time for Prince to release his version. evillol

I think so also, it would be perfect timing for Prince to release the full version by Prince and The Revolution.

The only way Prince would release it, is if say some loser like Bruno Mars releases a cover version, and then Prince will play it live year after year, and probably release his version.
