Aye Prince, SHUT YO' ASS UP!!! .
Does is bug you when Prince talks (instructs, has outbursts, etc.) on record & includes them in the final mix? Not me, I like it Not only do I simply dig the tone of his voice (singing & talking) but I'm always curious about WHAT he's saying - maybe b/c it's pretty rare that I hear him simply speaking. @ times it's clear he's speaking to someone in the studio with him (I think ), but @ other times I wonder if he's recording alone & leaving cues for elements to be included later. Might be silly but I find it fascinating A few examples: Calhoun Square: "listening to the drummer but you still wanna have fun, it shouldn't be work... 2, 3, BAY-BY" The Rainbow Children (2nd half, instrumental): "Gimme a beat" I Love U But I Don't Trust You Anymore: "Rolling? (clears throat)" Ronnie Talk To Russia/Let's Work: "1, 2, 3... LET'S WORK!" Cloreen Bacon Skin: it's one long, FUNNY outburst & funky as all hell! "Cloreen... baby, you one ugly mutha mutha..." It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night: unfair b/c it's live, but you gotta love "drop off the horns... UGH!!" Something in the Water, @ Le Bataclan: I know this isn't a real example since it's live & unreleased, but I love that he screams out "change!... bridge... GROOVE!" throughout the song. Had they not rehearsed it in a while & needed cues? Or did he just feel like being vocal? Thoughts? Examples? bacon sandwich edit... Prince is a highly evolved human being. We play his music all the time on my planet. We also appreciate everything he has to say. ___________

Had the song been released on a studio album of new material he may have not have allowed it on the final recording. You'd more than likely just hear the musical intro. The Rainbow Children (2nd half, instrumental): "Gimme a beat"
There's a couple of verbal cues he gives in the coda of that one. I also like the fact that I can hear his hand rubbing down the fretboard of the geetar toward the very end. I Love U But I Don't Trust You Anymore: "Rolling? (clears throat)"
It's been so LOOONG since I've listened to that one. Ronnie Talk To Russia/Let's Work: "1, 2, 3... LET'S WORK!"
Counting in. Cloreen Bacon Skin: it's one long, FUNNY outburst & funky as all hell! "Cloreen... baby, you one ugly mutha mutha..."
I HATE THAT DAMN TRACK. It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night: unfair b/c it's live, but you gotta love "drop off the horns... UGH!!"
Not too fond of that one either. Something in the Water, @ Le Bataclan: I know this isn't a real example since it's live & unreleased, but I love that he screams out "change!... bridge... Yea, but it's cool that he included it IMO The way he says "bay-by" just gets you ready for some funky ass shit! The Rainbow Children (2nd half, instrumental): "Gimme a beat"

Counting in. Yes but still cool Cloreen Bacon Skin: it's one long, FUNNY outburst & funky as all hell! "Cloreen... baby, you one ugly mutha mutha..."

In the case of Something in the Water at Le Bataclan he gives those cues so that the band follows him. If he wouldn't, they would just play the verses till their hair's grey.
Nothing to with not having rehearsed it, on tracks like this they don't have an order on how many verses they play etc.

Certainly much better than his religious mumbling and destroying classic songs with changed lyrics.

How can U say this???
The man rarely speaks ...and hardly ever when he's NOT being "Prince". Don't u think he leaves all that chatter on there to give it a more spontaneous feel to the recording. It's really something to listen to him speaking casually--listen to the various soundchecks from ONA.

I love the 'bandleader' side of Prince... love to hear him shout out instructions for the band to follow... "A-train!..." "Kickdrums!..." "Come on band..." You know who's in charge! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I was thinking about starting a thread like this but ask how many phrases does Prince have to direct the band?
ie... Vegas...(Big ending) To the bridge...(you know...) etc... I love it when he talks cause you don't hear him speak often and I love the bandleader side of Prince. I'm firmly planted in denial

Cool thread. Yeah I dig it, especially when it seems unintentional. A little behindthescenesish ya know?
A matter of fact, I think I remember him saying something really faint at the end of the extended version of "La, La, La, He, He, Hee". Hmmm, gotta go...
