Congrats on seeing this through! I am looking forward to listening to it.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Well done. Thanks for sharing. Just think, soon you'll have your very own 'Cease & Desist' letter. Suitable for framing, no doubt.

It is raining here in Australia and also Easter Monday and Anzac Day combined - a special Memorial Day for all Australians and New Zealanders.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

"Lest we forget"

On this solemn day in Oz I can't tell you how much I enjoyed your documentary. I didn't want it to end because it lifted my spirits but sadly all good things come to an end.

Thanks so much Militant for your hard work on this piece - I really loved it.

Are you going to do another one? Put me down on your contact list because I want to be one of the first to hear it.

Kind Regards from Down Under

biggrin lol

UPDATE 23/04/11 - The documentary is now available!!! Listen here:

http://goo.gl/hc1jr

-------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys - it's finally here! (Mods....a sticky would be nice biggrin)

The documentary I've been making about "Parade" as part of the XFM "25" series looking back on classic albums from 1986 will be going out this Sunday night on XFM (www.xfm.co.uk) followed by playback of the whole album in full! But we might be able to stream it online as soon as tomorrow on our Mixcloud "25" series page! I'll confirm that later today.

It's a 1 hour documentary with brand new contributions from the following people:

Matt "Dr" Fink

Brent and Clare Fischer

Bill Oddie

Brett Anderson (of the band Suede)
BBC Radio 1/Asian Network DJ Bobby Friction

Myself (S-Endz of world-reknowned electropop band Swami)

As I said before - the aim was to create a documentary that will not only be interesting to hardcore, but also to people completely unfamiliar with Prince. So with that said - you'll all be familiar with some of the things we covered, but hopefully there'll be some new insights for most of you too. It's a difficult thing to pull off - but I believe we have done it.

Can't wait for you all to hear it.

Check out the Mixcloud link above to hear the other documentaries done so far in the series - Metallica's "Master Of Puppets", Public Image Ltd's "Album" and Depeche Mode's "Black Celebration". Other episodes to come in the series later this year include The Smiths "The Queen Is Dead", Run-DMC's "Raising Hell", Beastie Boys "Licensed To Ill", Talk Talk's "The Color Of Spring" and more smile

I'm certain they considered it fair use under news exemption.

I'm sure that would be argued where no agreement had been secured. And the amount of material used would likely be argued as fair and proportionate. I'm also sure there are some counter-arguments.

You bet there are counter-arguments - from the copyright holder! smile It's unlikely anyone was contacted to secure an agreement for the use of unreleased material. Who would they contact? Warner Bros would defer to Prince for permission and you can imagine contacting (and getting a response) from him at this time would be nearly impossible. Whoever handles risk assessment in XFM's UK legal team most likely decided that the fair use argument would be sufficient. Besides, unless Prince has someone trolling the fansites right now checking for violations, no one will ever find out about it and submit a claim.

Bill Oddie is describing the Lovesexy tour as the worst Prince show and categorically stating it's not as good as the others. What a lucky guy to have been there for the Dirty Mind concert at the Lyceum though.

Anyway, congratulations to all involved on a good documentary. The one error I spotted was saying Madonna was lined up for Under The Cherry Moon. She and Kim Basinger were the original names in the frame for Graffiti Bridge rather.

And if you're using Safari/Mac, just click on window>activity>the site where the mp3 extension appears, click cmd+ctrl and double click, boom its on the desktop.

I haven't listened to it yet, UGH, I'll be glad when this damn marketing research project is over.

Well done. Nothing really said that I didn't know already, but I do enjoy listening to real Prince fans talk about real Prince music. I hate listening to these types of things where its people simply praising random mega hits and saying P is a genius. You guys did really well explaining WHY we love him so much.

What a treat that was clapping

Finally listened to it while I was jogging today, loved every minute of it, especially Bobby Friction's commentary. I identified with everything he said, esp the part about not talking with some of the people near 50 who don't look like they could remotely listen to anything related to Prince but you find out that they will talk a great length about Prince, BOY did that happen to me.

I caught one of my Marketing instructors listening to "Wonderful Ass" in her Ipod - out of everything else imaginable, she was listening to THAT SONG - who would've thought? lol I posted a thread about that incident before btw. He's right, you can't really identify a Prince fan.

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole special, especially the music analysis of "Parade", its def a well deserving project to be studied and examined and I'm glad that somebody took the time to do it . Great job, and look forward to check your other work. Cheers.

It's on Work It 2.0.

Vol 2 if I remember correct.

Prince's early version and Mazarati's version is included.

Excellent listen Thanks for posting smile When Bobby friction was speaking about getting into Prince music when he was at school and all the negativity, that came from others.

Shit I felt exactly the same way back in the day! I think there were 3 of us out of 500 that could see he was the real deal. cool I was happy to be one of them.

While we are on about Parade, here is the quote from Emma Townshend(Pete's daughter) about discovering Prince.

My favourite A&R man was also my dad's: Mo Ostin, who ran Warner Bros. He already had on his label Rickie Lee Jones, Tom Waits, Randy Newman; now he signed a little-known, tiny, dark-eyed genius from Minneapolis.

Prince turned out album after album, and we received them with total joy, marvelling as each one got better and better and better.

I distinctly remember being in Venice and listening to Parade. I said to Dad, "I don't understand how it would be possible to make music any better than this."

He was struggling for words: "He's not just a genius!" he spluttered, "He's a quantum genius!" We both stared at the grey sky, feeling both exhilarated by the art and completely depressed.

Awesome story. Thanks so much for sharing. I find both personally honest and true.

I think we early Prince fans did not follow trends, we followed genius.

This is what I don't understand. Why should not so old threads expire? I'm afraid this forum needs a programming fix.

And there is an easy solution for that: why the need to start several threads saying 'I'll be doing', 'I'm doing', 'I've done' a documentary on Parade?

Wouldn't be enough with this one?

Oh, yes, that would've prevented you from getting your much seeked attention... err

LOL. I'm not going to turn this thread into a ridiculous argument, but use some logic. I posted the initial thread because I wanted to know WHAT fans on here wanted to me ask Fink and other people I might be interviewing. And, I got feedback about what people wanted to hear, and I've asked those questions and included those specific topics in the documentary.

If I was as self-absorbed as you seem to believe, I would not have done any of that.

The second thread - admittedly - may not have been necessary, but I wanted to update the original thread as the process was in full swing and we had conducted the first few interviews. As I was unable to update the first thread, I made a new one. Maybe it wasn't necessary, but people appreciated it just the same.

Would it be possible for you to stop being so negative about every single minor issue for once? I'm REALLY sorry that I inconvenienced your life so fucking much that you felt the need to make a personal attack over multiple threads being posted. You aren't the .org police.

I enjoyed the radio show can you do another one ??
