Whatever he means with all those covers, I think it's pretty clear that Prince respected MJ a great deal. And yes, covering songs of his could be seen as paying homage. That's basically what you do when you cover a song.

No one wants to have that discussion. Why can't you respect it? Stop trying to break the rules and take your discussion elsewhere.

Elvis didn't write music, but he played piano well & rhythm guitar adequately.

Maybe he was paying tribute to Michael. Maybe James. Maybe Elvis. And maybe the Soul Train dancers.

We all know that since Prince has been performing "Kiss", he does a special dance segment were a main light is focused on him. Now we all should know by know "the king" use to do a similar segment when he performed one of his classics. Do you think Prince is paying homage or just doing it to be doing it? [Edited 4/20/11 13:27pm] [Edited 4/20/11 13:29pm]

Did you expect him to dance in the dark?

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Lol! C'mon now, it's a FACT that "the king/god" started everything and is the actual GOD that created the heavens and the earth, not the one we read about. If you don't believe that then you're just being ignorant.

there was only one King and that was Elvis. After the original poster explained his title I also think the thread is misleading and should be locked!

If you wanna talk MJ go to a MJ forum. There's no place for wannabe kings here...

I put "the king" because I didn't won't the thread to get locked right away. I wanted a couple of answers before it gets locked. If i would've put Michael Jackson, people would've been telling mods to lock the thread. Some Prince need to learn how to have a mature discussion about Prince and Michael. [Edited 4/20/11 13:58pm]

Awwww....Way to go! Now all some prince diehard fans are going to be mad at MJ fans!!! sad

But!! I've read that Prince performed Don't Stop Till U Get ENough as a tribute to Michael at MJ sticky ^_^ And I've read here at Prince.org that he's been playing Shake Ur Body Down 2 The Ground while he was touring Europe as a homage to Michael...Can't wait to go to Prince concert and scream "Thank U So Much Prince!!" when he plays DSTYGE ^_^!!

He's been playing 'Don't Stop Til You Get Enough' since 2006, before MJ's tragic death. He played it a few times while supporting and touring with Tamar. 'Shake Your Body' was added after MJ's passing. Either way, I think it's pretty cool.

Ha! Folks listing the limited ability of Elvis to write songs and play instruments, yet he still makes how much a year after being dead for so long?? I liked all the superstars listed, and obviously millions of other people.

Elvis is THE King? I thought they were referring to him as king of rock and roll or something...??

That's what my dad always called him. And I believe Michael Jackson's "King of Pop" is in reference to Elvis as The King, which is why Michael's King was qualified with the "of Pop".

Anywho... I don't think he was paying homage. I think he was showing off that wonderful ass of his. Like one of the others said... MJ couldn't touch that with a 10ft pole... *Runs off the watch the footage* lol

There is an MJ sticky in the music: non-prince forum and lock this disguised MJ thread.
