A Big Tour>aftershows>new songs preview>why no new album announced or whyPrince&WB can't make things like EMI&Pink Floyd

...a big Tour since severals months....aftershows ...new songs....and where is the next project from Prince..........and why Prince & WB can't make things & release amazing stuff like EMI & PINK FLOYD for this Fall???

SO DISAPOINTING!!

Pink Floyd and EMI Music, whose association dates from 1967, announce a comprehensive release schedule, to be launched on September 26, 2011, encompassing CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, SACD, an array of digital formats, iPhone Apps and a brand-new single-album ‘Best Of’ collection, 'A Foot In The Door - The Best of Pink Floyd'.

The Why Pink Floyd...? campaign will include super-deluxe immersive multi-disc box sets, containing alternate takes, unreleased tracks, restored live concert screen films and a live recording of the legendary The Dark Side Of The Moon performance at Wembley in 1974.

A series of different listening experiences have been specially created for this release: in addition to remastered CDs called ‘Discovery’ and the ‘Immersion’ CD / DVD / Blu-ray / memorabilia box sets will be a series of ‘Experience’ Editions – coupling one classic album with a further disc of related content from that album to offer a deeper listening experience.

To find out more about the releases, visit whypinkfloyd.com

Additional fan bundles will be announced soon...

Revealed today are details of a huge Pink Floyd release schedule, featuring all the studio albums newly remastered including unreleased music from the archives and collectors' box sets. With three of the major titles coming in three different editions each, there's an edition for every level of fan, from casual enthusiast, to the biggest Floydheads!

The comprehensive release schedule kicks off on September 26, 2011, and encompasses CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, an array of digital formats, viral marketing, iPhone Apps and a brand-new single-album 'Best Of' collection. Vinyl editions are also in the works for release in due course.

We're delighted to bring you details of the remasters, the collection boxset, the best of, and for three of the albums (so far) the three different special editions on offer - Discovery, Experience, and Immersion - and just what to expect for each album. We've also got those important pre-order links, so that you can secure your chosen release(s)...

BEST OF - "A FOOT IN THE DOOR" - November 7th, 2011
This is a single CD collection featuring a tracklist chosen by Pink Floyd, and featuring newly created artwork from Storm Thorgerson. All tracks remastered by James Guthrie in 2011. The tracks are: Hey You / See Emily Play / The Happiest Days Of Our Lives / Another Brick In The Wall part 2 / Have A Cigar / Wish You Were Here / Time / The Great Gig In The Sky / Money / Comfortably Numb / High Hopes / Learning To Fly / The Fletcher Memorial Home / Shine On You Crazy Diamond (edit) / Brain Damage / Eclipse.

DISCOVERY EDITIONS - September 26th, 2011
Every EMI-released album in the Pink Floyd catalogue will be released as a Discovery edition. All 14 original Studio albums have been painstakingly digitally remastered by James Guthrie, and are reissued with newly crafted packaging and multi-page booklets created by the band's long-time artwork collaborator Storm Thorgerson.

These will clearly be ideal for the more casual fan, and for those who want to explore one or more of the band's albums for the first time. However, if you want them all, you might want to consider...

DISCOVERY BOX SET - September 26th, 2011
This gathers together all fourteen studio albums in their Discovery edition version, into one newly designed box, with a specially designed booklet.

EXPERIENCE EDITIONS
Currently, there are three of the Floyd's albums that have been announced for release as an Experience edition. These present the original studio album, digitally remastered by James Guthrie and reissued with a newly designed Digipak and a new multi-page booklet designed by Storm Thorgerson. However, each also comes with an additional disc as follows:

- THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON Experience edition - September 26th, 2011
Disc two features the November 1974 Wembley concert recording by the BBC of The Dark Side of the Moon.

- WISH YOU WERE HERE Experience edition - November 7th, 2011
Disc two features more from the November 1974 Wembley concert, and contains the following tracks: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1-6) live at Wembley (2011 mix and previously unreleased)
Raving & Drooling live at Wembley (2011 mix and previously unreleased)
You've Got To Be Crazy live at Wembley (2011 mix and previously unreleased)
Wine Glasses from the unreleased 'Household Objects' project
Have A Cigar alternative version (previously unreleased)
Wish You were Here featuring Stephane Grappelli (previously unreleased)

- THE WALL Experience edition - February 27th, 2012
Disc three's contents are yet to be officially announced.

These editions will prove tempting to those fans who don't go for the Immersion editions...which, as you'll see below, go to new lengths never before seen in Floyd releases!

Do we really need such detailed cd and dvd tracklistings on another artist in a forum about Prince?

I'm guessing no.

I would prefer rarities box sets, instead of a massive Purple Rain box of something.

I would prefer both. A Purple Rain box set with the kind of detail you see above would rock. It could contain so much crap on there it would be disgusting. With all the recording that was going on at the time, the possibilities would be endless.

That being said, something like Crystal Ball (but with filled discs) over and over and over again would be amazing.

I've given up hope that we will ever get remasters from Prince sad We'll just have to focus on remasters from our other favorite artists.

A Purple Rain box set like those Pink Floyd ones would be too bulky to move around if I'm going places.

Absolutely! cool

He should release so many Crystal Ball volumes, so eventually there'll be nothing left in the vault. cool

Didn't prince start "future soul song" the other night
and then ask the audience if they knew the chorus, and
when they didn't he just went into another song?

:falloff:

He didn't even release the album in the usa. If they'd
all started singing it he might have got mad at them
for knowing it "how come you know this song? Have you
been downloading the album?" *stomps off stage*

I'm guessing that something new will show up in autumn
once all the touring is done. Maybe a few more tracks
will be 'released' on internetradio with dj's talking
over the intro and outro.

i would say one big reason is pink floyd have always been with emi, so there is no obvious bad blood between the group and label as there is with warners and prince.

I think Prince is Prince and he chooses what he wants to do at any point in time. It's fine with me because there's no one like Prince or anyone who can do what he does musically.

And whatever happens and whenever Prince decides to release something that he created there will be an amazing new adventure channeling many grooves. imo heart guitar

Agreed. Putting a Prince title on a Pink Floyd thread doesn't make it a Prince thread.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I was actually just thinking about Pink Floyd when I found this thread, but for another reason. Those guys hated each other for most of their later career but they pulled it together enough to get together for a reunion concert at Live 8. What if Prince and the Revolution (the original lineup) did a reunion concert for charity? That would solve the usual problem that comes up between Prince and W&L, namely who pays for what and what happens to the money. It would be nice to dispel some of those bad vibes while the original members are all still alive. I don't see Prince ditching his current band for a whole tour any more than Roger Waters would do a whole tour with David Gilmour. But a one-shot Prince and the Revolution concert for charity doesn't seem impossible, even if they can't work out their long-term differences. It would get media attention that would benefit everyone involved. The tension between Prince and W&L was a key plot point in the Purple Rain movie which is how most people got to know Prince in the first place. This could then kick off the reissue campaign that I expect is coming soon one way or the other (although I know others are pessimistic). "Purple Rain: The Immersion Experience" would be amazing, and we already know a lot of what could go on it.

As to what they could play at the concert, I expect it would be the hits from the Revolution period that he is playing over and over. But I'd love to see a live version of the complete Dream Factory album. Can't see that happening in light of some of the lyrics, but there's no harm in fantasizing, I guess.
