A while back someone here brought up the opinion that Prince's music became weaker after he stopped writing songs using the bass.

I thought that was an interesting notion, but it left me wondering ever since which tracks Prince wrote that way. I could think only of Let's Work, as that song basically is the bassline.

Does anyone know of any songs that have been confirmed as "written by Prince using the bass"?

I think P gave all his good bass lines to The Time. The only ones that come to mind right now..

Maybe "Dance On".

The majority of prince's recordings are started with a drum beat and then the bass, so you could say that prince writes most of his songs using the bass but it has been said by people who have worked with him that prince comes up with every song in his head before commiting anything to tape, so he will have figured out the main elements of the track before even picking up an instrument!

Seems as though I read something in Rolling Stone in the early 80s saying that Prince wrote Irresistable Bitch on drums.
