Digipaks are more expensive to manufacture than jewel cases. How is this thing so hard to understand for orgers when it's been mentioned each time these threads come up?

I'm sure the packaging for Lotusflow3r and the newspaper releases were cheaper than standard jewelcases, but that's not the case with releases like TRC and NEWS at all.

Exactly! Besides, jewel cases are cheap as hell now days. I wonder how much the packaging costs were for "RUTJF"? That albums case was dope!

confuse

Hmm. I'm not sure what you are referring to with this post when I compare it with the tone of your original post.

However, when people have called digipaks "cheap" on this site they are simply misinformed (digipaks are the cardboard sleeves with the plastic tray glued to them in case someone is confused about the terminology). The cardboard slipcases without the plastic tray are the ones that can be sometimes cheaper to manufacture than the "standard" jewelcases, but that can vary according to the amount ordered as well.

Many artists prefer digipaks themselves due to aesthetic reasons, because they are closer to the packaging used on vinyl records. In general, the digipak format is the preferred format for most underground genres of music where appealing to flimsy pop audiences is not the objective. We live through pretty sad times when plastic signals higher quality to people.

Does anyone have adapted covers that can be used in jewel cases?

Um, I think he was referring to the fact that he doesn't listen to that shit AT ALL, not just on CD.

Lol!

Yes: TRC.

That's the only exception to the 'cheap' rule.

That's one of my least favorites.

It's simply because they are more eco-friendly.

Prince didn't personally finance the pressings of "Musicology" or "3121", so the "cheap" argument is stupid. Digipacks and card sleeves are also cooler, and they don't crack like stupid jewel cases. They're also easy to transport. I'm moving to the US from the UK permanently soon, and I'm going to have to keep a bunch of my music here in storage for the time being. If all my CD's were digipacks or card sleeves this would be way easier.

Of course! Why not? They're not so hard to get even if you don't live in the countries where it was given away with a paper.

Unless I have to travel a long distance (and not by car) I NEVER use any kind of portable device.

And the fact that I never listen to Prince's recent stuff doesn't mean I don't get the new albums to keep my collection complete.

Exactly, I am still hunting my very own physical copy of 20Ten as well, yet I know I will listen to it once, burn to my computer and there it will sit with the rest of my Prince CD's collecting dust.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

These are my thoughts.

I have cd's from the 80's that still play perfect, simply because I look after my music collection.

Okay. I guess from here on out I'll put every paper Prince cover CD in a Glass Case & take it out only wearing gloves then. All OF MY 80'S & 90'S PRINCE CD'S ARE IN SUPERB SHAPE [THEY ALL HAVE PLaSTIC CASES [NOT EVEN CRACKS IN THEM]. BTW Does anybody else have a copy of "Lovesexy" on CD with a white backing [the part that actually hold cd in place]? Mine Does....I've never seen anyone else's copy look like that....

I have the white CD tray for Lovesexy.

I prefer jewel cases too, but I think the industry is shifting away from them.

I think that even the cardboard cases should have the "spindle" part of the CD holder instead of sliding in/out of a sleeve.

Many music collector's consider plastic better because it protects the booklet & CD better than digipacks and because if the case gets scuffed, cracked or otherwise damaged it is easily and cheaply replaceable to make the CD package like new again.

Damage a digipack and you either live with it or buy a whole new album.

What's so difficult to understand about that?

See my point above. Crack a jewell case and it's cheap & easy to replace, damage the digipacks and good friggin' luck!

so perfect for the industry if people really acted like that. to most, music is disposible. even to collectors, most aren't that anal about stuff to want to rebuy a second copy

most collectors are moving towards streaming media, so the cd is ripped to a pc once and the disc can be put in storage. few people these days play cds regularly. cd's are played as often as vhs nowadays

All of my Pearl Jam CDs post-1993 came in digipaks, as did the majority of my NIN CDs and all of the new Beatles remasters.

I wonder why Prince gets so much criticism for using digipaks when some of the biggest names in the industry use them.

I've heard criticism for Beatles using digipaks. Digipaks often can't fit into the CD holders.
