Why Does Prince use so many Paper Covers? Mostly every album Prince has come out in the last Decade have all had paper covers & I don't understand that. Plastic CD covers always gives more protection to CD than paper. A lot of my covers are worn out already....my Lotusflow3r [along with Planet Earth] was nearly broken by it accidently being sat on [& had hot coffee spilt on it]!

Simply because its cheap. .

because they are more eco friendly. i think some of them like NEWS cost more to make than standard plastic, but the newspaper ones are cheaper

they do take up less space tho

I thought for sure that paper come from trees. Killing trees is better for the environment? At least plastic is recyclable too...btw name one really really good Prince album released in these "paper" covers.....

Exactly. Like the music inside them.

I don't believe that Prince has released one stellar album using a paper cover....

Yes: TRC.
That's the only exception to the 'cheap' rule.

TRC was good [but not stellar] imo. It was way too long & I got sick that "deep" voice being on almost every song....I didn't like the mix either

Stop it! | |

paper is recycleable and renewable, and it's biodegradable
plastic is recyclable, but it takes more energy to recycle, it's not renewable or biodegradable like paper
some paper suppliers replant new trees to cover the trees used in the manufacture of paper to ensure sustainability of resources for the future. i think the oil suppliers use the money to fund wars or clean up envoronmental disasters caused by the greed of the parent companies
both NEWS and TRC, the best two albums of the last 10 years were released in cardboard packaging instead of traditional jewel cases. in fact all his albums in the last 10 years came in cardboard packaging (although plastic packaging may have been available in some countries)

I hate these types of covers. They get worn quickly and you can't fix it by putting it in a new case.

none of mine are worn out. and i sure as hell have never spilled anything on them. take better care of your stuff.

These are my thoughts. I have cd's from the 80's that still play perfect, simply because I look after my music collection.

P just cares for profits. Or, through P's contacts, the companies 'helping' him out choose for cheap. Luckily you can get multiple albums... Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Okay. I guess from here on out I'll put every paper Prince cover CD in a Glass Case & take it out only wearing gloves then. All OF MY 80'S & 90'S PRINCE CD'S ARE IN SUPERB SHAPE [THEY ALL HAVE PLaSTIC CASES [NOT EVEN CRACKS IN THEM]. BTW Does anybody else have a copy of "Lovesexy" on CD with a white backing [the part that actually hold cd in place]? Mine Does....I've never seen anyone else's copy look like that....

I TOTALLY AGREE! | |

ONA...L came in plastic cases [& a box of couse] {i include that one in case some Prince zealot wants to call me out}

For the record, my copy of Around the World in a Day (bought in 1990) came in a paper sleeve.

Digipaks are more expensive to manufacture than jewel cases. How is this thing so hard to understand for orgers when it's been mentioned each time these threads come up?
I'm sure the packaging for Lotusflow3r and the newspaper releases were cheaper than standard jewelcases, but that's not the case with releases like TRC and NEWS at all.

What are you people doing with these albums that wears them out? This is the twenty-first century. Just rip the album and stick it in a box.

You pretty much just proved my point with that answer [imo]. Besides, I don't recall ATWIAD only being released in that format. Mine is in a jewel case just like mostly everybody else's...

Accidents don't happen?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly! Besides, jewel cases are cheap as hell now days. I wonder how much the packaging costs were for "RUTJF"? That albums case was dope!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
did it now? and wtf did the plastic fucking case come in?
i rest my fucking case | |

Have you ever heard one night alone (piano)????

I mostly buy records and they never came in a plastic cover. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Eco friendly, and easier storage, the person who sat on theirs and spilt coffee on it, needs to take better care of their music, thats what shelves and slip in Fellowes CD albums are for. I get hella raw when my brother borrows my CDS and DVDs and returns then scratches and thumbprints on them. The album 3121 is an example of a great released in a digipak, and on vinyl. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Nothing's stopping you from getting your own plastic covers. All you others say Hell Yea!!
