Prince's "Dance 4 Me" vs. Zapp's "I Can Make You Dance"

There are vocal parts which are very similar, if not the same. The rhytm of vocals is exactly the same. Inspiration or rip off? Thoughts?

I like Dance 4 Me better however..and I didnt think about that either when it came out to be honest...somebody else posted that Dance 4 Me also sounds like "Giving Everything" by WaWaNee.

I Can Make U Dance is aiight, but I always thought it was repetetive after the first two minutes.

Rhyging

I Can Make You Dance wins hands down, Zapp III is a classic in my book.

Inspiration

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

i forgot about "I Can Make You Dance". I was too busy concentrating on Marvin Gaye's "Masochistic Lady" after someone else on here (don't remember who) pointed out the vocal similarities. Does sound more like the Zapp track though.

There's nothing to say it's not. Besides, I'm sure they knew each other. They were former "co-workers" and I'm sure they attended corporate events together at WB.

I've heard Lionel Richie state in interviews that a lot of recording artists used to call each other up to see when their new projects were dropping. He said they used to try to drop singles and albums around the same time as a form of "friendly" competition. So, this wouldn't surprise me at all if "Dance 4 Me" wasn't an ode to Roger and Zapp.

In your opinion....but Prince dance songs have more play on my ipod than theirs...

I can Make U Dance is repetetive as much as Lets Work.

Brothers Johnson......next

Cameo threw down..however all the people u names are ALL different than eachother...Minneapolis Funk is way different than anything they came out with.

those never made me jam... I'm more likely to jam to 777-9311, housequake, eroctic city and more heavily grooved jams. Prince makes great music, but nothing I considered dance jams.

He was too "light" ... pop,

I'm from the east coast... we thought that Minneapolis funk was a bit soft growing up. I like Prince's music to listen to, but not to dance to. He's like Sting to me. Great music, just not dance music... and that repetitive stuff is what makes a person shake their ass, not the jazzy stuff that has complicated beats this is why Prince never got heavy play in the clubs.

He did have a few jams though. Don't get me wrong, I love Prince's music, but he was never hardcore at anything. Hardcore beats is what gets people to the dance floor, and yes that music can be unsophisticated but it is still great in its simplicity.

In her opinion? Shouldn't SHE know for a FACT, whether or not if Prince's music has made HER dance the way Zapp, Cameo, The Brothers Johnson etc... did? confuse

Zapp's "I Can Make You Dance". The song that Prince ripped off. Just listen to the vocals and sing "I like it when you dance for me" instead of "I can make you dance".
