There was no album released in 2008. We got two Prince albums in 2009. And the "2010 giveaway" still counts.

"WHY NO STUDIO lp in YEARS???"

Pretty impressive really when you look over his career in the way that princevault.com have it laid out - only 3 years where he didn't release an album in all that time.
I think the guy deserves a break.
Get off his back already.

Aside from ONA: Live and Indigo Nights, every CD he's released has been recorded in a studio.
And have you missed the last 10 years?
2001: The Rainbow Children 2002: One Nite Alone: Piano And Voice 2004: Musicology 2006: 3121 2007: Planet Earth 2009: LotusFlow3r/MPLSound 2010: 20Ten

That's hilarious... Prince is one of the most prolific artists in the last 30 years... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Ah, I misread your "no album released in 2008" as meaning nothing that year. "New Power slide...."

Too bad we haven't had a good album since 1995

Less is better. Especially considering the output of the last decade plus. The only thing to hope for is a purge of the vaunted Vault. One possible reason it hasn't been expoited is that the quality isn't there. But, then what can I say about the quality of the new stuff???

Prince has released plenty of outstanding new music in the last 10 plus years. I really don't see any huge disparity in the quality across decades.
and did the OP really completely miss Lotusflow3r? [Edited 3/21/11 22:53pm]

Seriously?

He is? It barely registers here. Especially the past few years. I mean, back in 1995 the stuff hit harder, as it appears to me Yes, I am part of the observation. Fact is that the music makes less of an impact and I do not really mean the top-40 meme. Songs can be powerfull and/or effective without being hits. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Some ocd part of me just loved looking at the albums all lined up like that.

It doesn't really count, it's was only a promo release. It would count if you could buy it in a store that sells music.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's still an LP/Compact Disc with newly recorded songs. If a band chooses to release their album online for free, it's still an album.

If a band releases an album for free on the internet, it counts. The band's website would have some sort of music store, although it's often just links to amazon.

What a crock! | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, like... they literally release it for free with no option to pay for it.
But whatever, I can see I won't be changing your mind. I just think it's weird to let whether a collection of music costs money determine whether it's an album or not.

It counts. | |

You say it right...there is some disparity between the decades. But this last decade isn't all that bad. It's been very diverse with for me real downers like índigo nights, planet earth and 2010..but then again it had ONA piano, Lotusflower, C-Note and TRC. Yet i would rate it overall the less best decade of Prince..but then again...it still had some very strong moments.

Any release which includes "Everybody Loves Me" doesn't count.

Shady! | |

What r u talking about? We got a live album in 2008, THREE studio albums in 2009, one studio album in 2010, and 2011 has just started
And what's with that "2010" doesn't count nonsense. U have it, don't u? So no matter how and where it was released, it was released and everybody managed to get it one way or another and it's a studio album.

A "promo" means "not made available to the general public", as in "sent only to radios, TV's, websites and newspaper for broadcast and/or reviews."
A "release" is a records that's made available to the general public, either for purchase or even for free, and that includes giveaways and internet downloads.
Therefore, 20Ten (despite its jacket indicating "promotional release only, not 4 sale") fits in the "release" category, not the "'promo" one. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
