"Noon Rendezvous", "Erotic City" and "Irresistible Bitch" are the highlights to me. I've always loved the previously circulating version of "Noon Rendezvous", but listening to the one here is almost like listening to a studio version of it.
Never got the hype about "Our Destiny" and "Roadhouse Garden" myself. They're just sketches to my ears. Not really digging the DX7 sounds in the mix either (I suppose that's what's doing those "electric piano" sounds anyway).

Glad to see I'm not alone thinking that show is far from being perfect. Even with a perfect sound quality, "Our Destiny" and "Roadhouse Garden" are underwhelming. They would need a lot of work/overdubs to become interesting. For me, it's yet another example that Prince is usually better in the studio than in concert.

I'm in love with Noon Rendezvous Oh, blue light...

don't get me wrong, it's a great show, and sometimes it's nice to hear stuff with flaws and all, "as-is" instead of overdubbed "perfection". that's why prince doesn't release full live shows that aren't edited. syracuse is the only one that's close to being unedited (why did they put the mirror effect on when doves cry?)
i love roadhouse garden and our destiny though, and all day all night has long been a fave of mine. i can understand why some think it's over rated though

Our Destiny to me is seriously sharp, and crisp I love the raw experiment of Roadhouse Garden.
I'm glad this show was not perfect. I hate polished shows.
I love to hear a squeak and a touch of feedback, that's the realness. I'd hate to hear this show redone with touches overdubs and cleaning up

I know what you mean. I was not saying I necessarily like overdubs or polished songs. Just that, IMHO, "Our Destiny" and "Roadhouse Garden" are failed "experiments", to use that word. I still think that show is interesting and it will be put on repeat on my iPod for sure. Maybe I'll change my mind...

I think both 'Our Destiny' and 'Roadhouse Garden' are two marvellous pieces of music. Would love to hear the finished versions.

It's neat to put yourself in the timeframe and realize that Purple Rain had not been released yet, (only "When Doves Cry"). These people had no idea that in the next 3 weeks this guy would become one of the biggest pop stars of all time! Awesome.

And awesome reminder/reflection!! Thanks for the perspective! Oh, blue light...

I just listened to this for the first time (I've never heard the show before) and think it's awesome.
This is one of the most rewarding/frustrating things about being a prince fan. The fact that this amazing stuff exists and the fact that he keeps so much of it locked up in the vault.
I see people talking about the unreleased tracks on there, but on the first listen the one that really stood out for me was the amazing version of When Doves Cry.

I just meant that "Our Destiny" and "Roadhouse Garden" do not seem to be that different from some of the other outtake / protege material of his from the mid-80s. If I'd have to compare the performances here to, say, "Desire" and "Mutiny", I wouldn't think there's a huge difference in quality.
Not that I'd have anything against getting studio versions of them, of course.

The movie actually came out July 27th. Which is the day I became a life long Prince fan. Kind of interesting that two events that had a huge impact on my life happened in the same year - the year I turned 21.
Jan 22nd, 1984 - The Macintosh was released. I went to see one the day it came out and it transformed the way I thought about my profession as computer programmer. Probably even more than the college degree in computer science I got the year before. At the time I was working on a program to display lower case letters on my Apple ][+. After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I threw that code in the trash and ordered my first Macintosh.
Jule 27th, 1984 - Went to opening night of Purple Rain, got there early, they played the whole soundtrack in the theater before the movie started. By the end of the movie I was hooked. A couple of days later I bought the soundtrack even though someone had promised to give me their copy at the end of the week. I couldn't wait that long.
27 years later I'm typing this post on my Macintosh while listening to Prince. [Edited 5/9/11 7:20am]

2 me Our Destiny totally sounds different from Roadhouse Garden / Desire / Mutiny
Our Destiny sounded like it could have been on Purple Rain, it has the electronic electric sound Roadhouse Garden has a more organic feel to it
A lot of the music from the Family album was recorded around the Purple Rain era. I love both versions but I really dig the full band/multiple instrument sound of Nothing Compares 2 U, with the purple rain sound to it

Since this thread is now focused on the recent released bootleg, maybe it should be locked ?

I just meant that they don't stick out from the rest that much to my ears.
However, that's just based on the versions here. I suspend full judgement on them as compositions until the day the studio versions are circulating (if they ever do that).

This is a dupe thread! Digital Gardener opened one specifically for this boot yesterday. This thread was originally for the old version not the new one.

It could easily be that you know the others as releases or from Purple Rain(Possessed) this is the only place we know Our Destiny & Roadhouse Garden
