What should have been the live releases.

Now I consider Prince to be the greatest performer of all time, but his official live catalogue has been disapointing. Here's what I think it should have been.

Concert Films

Birthday Parade [same as TV broadcast] [Released on the same day as Under The Cherry Moon VHS and DVD]
Sign "O" The Times
LoveSexy Live [released everywhere except for the US, for obvious reasons]
Live In Tokyo [Sequenced in the right order]

Act II: Celebrate The Dawn [a double VHS [later double DVD] package that contains both the main show (including the NPG "support") and the aftershow of the last night of tour]

21 Nights In London [the last night] [DVD and Blu-Ray release]

Prince: Live At Montreux 2009 [Blu-Ray release only] [contains both shows]

Live Albums

Live At The Het Paard Van Troje

One Nite Alone Live [Disc 1: mainshow, Disc 2: aftershow]

Indigo Nights

Live EPs

Live In Syracuse [Baby I'm A Star and Purple Rain only]

NYC Live

Hit N Run Tour [a couple of tracks recorded during the 2000 leg, released at shows 2001/2002 and on the NPGMC]

Musicology Live EP [a couple of tracks recorded during the 2003 World Tour leg, released on some Musicology albums]

So you would want a release of the birthday parade show the same as the tv broadcast?

You do know that it was edited from a full gig down to only one hour?

Sign O The Times? What gig?

Lovesexy live, released everywhere exept for the USA? Why? Why is not releasing it in the USA an obvious reason?

Your list is probably worse than what we have had released already.

Revolutionary

Other than "4 Those of You On Valium"- which is the SOTT PP show- is there any known footage of "Strange Relationship" caught on film that is from '87, pre-Lovesexy shows?

That show is from First Avenue, not Paisley.

As for SR, I have no idea sorry, audio is my thing. You could always check on here http://thedigitalgarden.org/ when it opens, it will have (eventually) a very large dvd section.

Yes. It's supposed to be a companion release for the Under The Cherry Moon VHS, which is why it's released on the same day.

Sign O The Times? What gig?

The real gigs on the tour weren't filmed properly, so the Paisley Park/Rotterdam lip synced one.

Lovesexy live, released everywhere exept for the USA? Why? Why is not releasing it in the USA an obvious reason?

Because Prince was pissed at the US because of the failure of both the album and tour there.

Your list is probably worse than what we have had released already.

So you prefer Rave Un2 The Year 2000 and Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas to stuff from the Parade, Nude and Act II Tours and Montreux?

Give me (and most likely everyone else) the full unedited birthday parade show.

The PP lip synced SOTT is already out there and has been for years.

As for Lovesexy, you really are serious that that is a good enough reason not to release it in the US?

Have you actually watched any gigs from the NUde and Act II tours?

1. I don't see it happening.

2. Just because it's already released, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be part of my list.

3. Prince not releasing it in the US, would just be Prince being Prince by then. I don't think it was ever released outside of Europe in real life, was it?

4. I've watched the full Tokyo concert and some Spanish concert from the Nude Tour. I haven't watched (but I've heard some recordings) an Act II Tour concert, but I would guess that the final main show of the tour would've been filmed in better quality than usual maybe (and more than a couple of cameras) because the aftershow was released.

1. Ok

2. I think because of that reason and others it would be quite a big success if released on dvd, including the US.

3. I don't think the final gig of any tour would be filmed in better quality than any other gig on that tour. Then again, if it was a planned that that show was going to be given an official release at least we could hope that Prince would hire a proper professional fim crew, but knowing Prince, he would'nt, and it would be shit. lol

The aftershow release is average imo, thank god for The Ride, that performance saved that release. Still one of the best performances of that song.

Thanks for the correction. I'm just getting my toe in the water...

2. It would probably be imported from Europe everywhere in the US.

3. I agree with the aftershow. Really hilarious version of Call The Law on there. lol

I thought that final gig was professionally filmed because the aftershow was (was it?). Anyway, I think this Act II release would have been a great way to say goodbye to the Prince side of him and hello to the prince side of him.
