I Wonder.... Funky litle track.
Does anyone know the history/origins of this one? It sounds like it could fit right on Parade though I suspect it was written year after that one. How can a non-musician discuss the future of music
From anything other than a consumer point of view?

Likely, it was originally recorded during 1983.Does anyone know the history/origins of this one? It sounds like it could fit right on Parade though I suspect it was written year after that one. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

The liner notes (if you can believe them) say that the song was first written and recorded in 1983... but, the version most people have probably heard was re-recorded in 1991.
That's the thing about Prince... it's bad enough that he has vault material, but on top of that, he's constantly updating his vault material with new arrangements and new recordings of old vault tracks. That's why I always say that as far as we know, a lot of the stuff that we're hearing from Prince right now today could very well be vault material... you just never know... the music is timeless. "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

"but on top of that, he's constantly updating his vault material with new arrangements and new recordings of old vault tracks." As I knew the original version of "OF4Sale", even with a terrible sound, I can't stand the released one

I know. The original song is sheer genius. It's probably the most beautiful Prince track I personally know/ It's a very moving statement and an incredibly personal song. The newly recorded 1991 version on THE VAULT with it's new, distant crap lyrics sounds like a piece of utter shit in comparison. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I especially like the line, "Little did she know, when you're stuck in the snow, no one gets out alive..." from the "Vault" version. It alludes to the cocaine thing without spelling it out. But I hate that he changed the progression of "the sun set" from morning, to afternoon, etc. Oh, well. Prince fans will never be satisfied.
