Wha-what?! Suge Knight tried to sign Prince to Deathrow records? Suge talkin about Prince "I seen Prince (The Artist) up in the clubs a few times and I hollered at him. Then the Muthafucker was walkin' around with 'slave' written on his face. He was sayin' that he didn't want to fuck with people at record labels. He should have stayed ghetto instead of runnin' back to Arista with his head between his legs." Why am I just hearing about this? Can you imagine the trainwreck that would've been if Prince would've been open to it? For real.

Prince and ghetto should never be said in the same sentence....ever again

Suge is a moron if he thought Prince would *ever* sign with his label.

It would have never worked! It would have been a train wreck when Prince refused to do something the way Suge wanted it to be done. I don't even want to think about the artists that Suge Knight has had. "You need to laydown and let me show you how we do this thing up in funky town. From the heart of Minnesota here come the purple Yoda guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound! Come on, now!"

PLEASE Prince wanted to stay alive, out of jail and healthy. He would never have stooped that level of despiration. Suge just saw $$$. Prince's Sarah

Damn, he should have went! That's right I said it and I mean it.
Had Prince gone, Tupac Shakur would still be alive and well today because I know some Prince fans during that time, that would have taken Suge Knight out personally, had they laid down and dreamed, Prince was on Death Row Records! I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Where does it say he tried to sign him to Death Row? It just says he "hollered" at him. Sounds to me like he was just rappin' to him and not necessarily trying to recruit him.

If I remember didn't say he wouldn't even pay $500.000 for Prince to sign to his label?

Prince probably spends that in make up and hair dye every year.

Prince would've got the Grape St. Crips to ride on Suge if he started acting up. They rep the color purple AND wear jheri curls! (at the time).

And if that didn't work, we'ld put his ass in the trunk of a Lexius and drive him to Tennesse and invite a few Orgers to carravan and make him put his clothes on right. Prince's Sarah

I get that you going for humor there...but keep in mind that sagging pants are in all parts of town. I've seen my fair-share of lil' suburbites CK boxers.

They sure are. It seems that people walking around with shit in their pants is a worldwide phenomenon.

Yes I see what you mean...in his lace, high heels, mascara...plus I think his comparisons to slavery and poor black folks of history may slightly offend the real 'ghetto' dwellers when they realise he's talking about multiple-million paying slavery. Prince may have been born in a poor area....but he got out damn quick and has far removed himself (except when it suits him to draw ill advised comparisons)

Yeah, I believed that's where he was going too.

No that was Russell Simmons who said something along the lines of " I wouldn't pay a nickel more than $20,000 for his contract" or something like that. The quote is in the book Purple Reign (aka Slave 2 the System)

I'm not surprised. I read several times how Suge was at a Prince concert not long ago acting like a true fan in the audience.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
so Tupac and Suge both were a Prince fan, huh?

Suge wasn't trying to get Prince to his label, all he said was he saw him at the club and Prince and him taught. I think the assumption Suge wanted Prince on his label came from Prince's own statements according to Suge but all it suggests is that he was telling him why he had "SLAVE" written on his cheek when Suge asked him why he had it there. And where he lived at when he grew up is definitely an impoverished neighborhood (the ghetto). But I don't see where it said that Suge wanted him on Death Row. It wouldn't have worked anyways.

'Slave' on his face. Wow, that was about 15 yrs ago. "Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion" -- Martha Graham
