Favourite version of 'All the critics.....' Hey guys, just listened to the indigo nights version of this jam and must say, I find it a tad bland by comparison to the undeniably awesome version from the Montreux 2009 gig with the mesh of housequake and black sweat chants...
It's nice to see Prince use the lesser know tunes and turn them into one of his recent gig highlughts..
I also really enjoyed the funky if not brief piano rendion at the Izod W2A gig and its first appearance with First Avenue '82 just curious what other versions there are out there which are cool and of course what all you wonderful folks think of it..

All The Critics Love U In NY.......... I think I still feel like the studio version from "1999" is my fave, like When Doves Cry and Kiss.... certain Prince songs are just better on the album than played live, IMO.

I agree with whoever said First Ave. in 1982.
But, an honorable mention should go to the version during the Celebration in 2002. It sorta came outta left field at the time, and was pretty funky. The only thing was he was still acting like he had a stick up his ass, esp when he stopped the funk JUST to tell a couple on stage to knock off the dirty dancing because they didn't know each other that well. "Act our age, not your shoe size", and then went back into the song.
Now THAT was a buzzkill.

I would hate it when he'd perform the song and instead of "New York", it'd be whatever city he was in! Um, the song is "All The Critics Love U In New York", and New York was used for a reason, so keep that in the lyric, no matter WHERE the hell you are. No need for a cheap pop. lol
