Does any 1 have the new Sign "O" the Times DVD? I was just wondering, because I see it on a lot of websites. But I none of them has a picture of it. And they all different release dates, some as early as January 28th!

It's not "new" it's the Brazilian "bootleg" DVD that Phantom Sound & Vision is importing. If it ever does show up at Amazon, I'm sure it won't stay for long once certain parties catch wind of it.

This is a brand new DVD. It is advertised on BESTBUY.COM website for purchase. The store I call can't even give me any info on it. I don't think they know anything about it.

I just emailed NPG to see if they know anything about it... I have a feeling that even if they did, they would deny it.

Again, it's not "new". Look on Amazon. See the studio? It's listed as Phantom Sound & Vison. Phantom Sound & Vison is an import dealer and the version they have is the crappy Brazilian "import" version that's all over eBay. You know the one, SOTT with the 1999 performance picture on the front? Good indication of just how "legit" this release is. I think Universal has the video rights to SOTT these days. My guess is that this "import" will not actually see the light of day at legit dealers. [This message was edited Fri Feb 7 10:18:59 PST 2003 by kdavis]

Why cant people simply wait until it is released and in the stores? If it comes out, it will be available to all. Does it matter if you get it this year or next year? It is still the same DVD either way.

I think most die-hards are just anxious to have it on DVD. I know the DVD will probably be available for a long while since the concert movie was critically acclaimed and all that. I mean, the Sign O the Times concert movie is most definitely a certified Prince classic. But as in all things with Prince, you just never know how long something like this is going to be in print, so I think the natural instinct is just to scarf it up as soon as possible.
By the way, did anyone ever find out why the movie was released by MCA and not Warner Bros.? That's always bugged me. I know there must be a reason for it. "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

Warner Bros, in all their wisdom, didn't want to distribute the film. Therefore, Prince inked a distribution deal with Cineplex Odeon for the theatric release and subsequent MCA video.

For anybody in the UK, if you're waiting for a video/DVD release (any release) the best place to look first is the website of the British Board Of Film Classification
http://www.bbfc.org In the UK, every single cinema/video/DVD release MUST be viewed by them and then rated, even if the release turns out to be exempt. All their decisions are put on the website, along with what cuts were made and the running time of the feature (quite a fascinating site, for UK people). You can search for titles, directors, stars and you can also search for recent decision, which is a good way of finding out what's going to be released very shortly. At the time of this post, the only two entries for Sign O' The Times are the 1988 video decisions. So it's safe to say that Sign won't be out on vid/DVD here in the UK for a while. _____ [This message was edited Wed Feb 19 11:09:30 PST 2003 by Haystack]
