Prince ranks second among this week's Hot Tours with box office totals reported from his three-show run in February at Oakland's Oracle Arena. The concerts on Feb. 21, 23 & 24, part of the singer's Welcome 2 America Tour that kicked off last December, were sellouts drawing a total of 42,475 fans for all three nights.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Glad to see that Prince still has the drawing power to sell out large arenas. One of the few modern day legends of the music/entertainment business still going strong WITHOUT a major label backing him.

Exactly! This is amazing with no singles or albums in the top ten & no regular airplay of his latest masterpieces. That he can still go on the road and sale this many tickets & still b the talk of the town after over 30 ageless years in the industry is unheard of...Congratulations Princey! prince

Let's not get too carried away, shall we? rolleyes

42,475 divided by the 3 nights.... still averages to 14,158 per night.

There is not a damn thing wrong with my memory and I happen to remember a time when Prince could sell out 50,000+ seats in a stadium per night. HELLO!

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

When he sold out those stadiums, he had big albums and/or big hits...big difference. He hasn't had a hit in years.

Besides, Gaga is huge at the moment, and her average per night is almost the same as Prince.

Her weave is on too tight because she isnt considering he was backed by a large(est) record company, was in his prime (25 years ago), and...wait for it.....the cncerts were announced months in advance, not like today where he is doing them with a mere 2 weeks at most notice...convienent how she doesn't write that eh? I balme her nongreasy(her claim) weave being too tight.

Its just that there are a number of major factors you're not considering.

Apricots and cherries = both stone fruit but distinctly different. In addition to the other posters' points above, the economy is certainly a factor for all artists today. That's the real.

Consider this: In the late 80s and 90s the economy grew by 10%. By the end of the 90s the country was out of debt for the first time in 30 years. Remember how many Hummers were rolling around?

People had money to spend, we were younger = no responsibilities, etc. (much like the Gaga crowd, now).

Additionally, you're talking North and South Carolina....while it appears the folks there represented highly, their median income has declined by 3%-5% over the last five years. No. & So. Carolina are ranked the 42nd and 43rd lowest economy in the U.S. and the current unemployment rate there is between 9-10%. In 1999 the unemployment rate in the Carolinas was 3%.

Perhaps Prince didn't sell 50K tickets per night, but his daily and overall attendance numbers are impressive in comparison to other artists even with mitigating circumstances.

BLS http://www.bls.gov/

U.S. Census http://www.census.gov/population/www/

US Dept. of State: About: http://economics.about.co...conomy.htm

Actually....the shows I and this entire thread are talking about...were in OAKLAND, CA. Nice try though. lol

Yes, I noticed which is why I erased my original post. However, the statistics related to the overall economy covered the entire U.S. and were not specific to the Carolinas.

If you cared to read....the same holds true for California.

The current unemployment rate in California is 12.2%. In 2001 it was 4.7%. Fron 06 to 09 there was a 3% decrease in California's median income too. California's economy in the mid 90's ranked 5th in the world, now we are 9th.

So while you're pointing out the type-o I made, the facts remain the same which is why your post was silly.

(thanks for lettinmebemycelfagain). Just have to admit this is funny lol

What typo? You were talking about entirely different subject matter than what was being discussed. You made a mistake, it happens. At least be mature enough to own it and not try to pretend that it's my fault for noticing. Especially considering, if you hadn't been so busy replying to me and tryin to make excuses for Prince, instead of reading the topic, there'd have been nothing for me to notice. shrug

lol you're so funny. No, read again, the first part of my post concerns the entire u.s. economy. the last portion was geographically specific to the Carolinas.

I admitted my error. You posted as I attempted to correct my mistake and you know that.

Nevertheless, I provided you with additional support to respond as to why your original post was clueless. That is why you're trying to focus the debate on my error rather than your post.

The economy is what it is from sea to shining sea and has been, wake up.

You were trying to imply Prince's numbers were unusualy low; I and other posters presented information to the contrary.

Instead of spending your time trying to hate on EVERYTHING Prince does, perhaps you should give your daily twisted opinion a rest. Sorry.
