Prince 2012 Superbowl Rumor

So I'm working at my job ( still here) and this limo driver pulls up. I ask who's in the back. He says no one, but he had Lupe Fiasco the other nite. Then I ask if he had ever driven Prince. Then he says " no not yet . But he's supposed to be coming here for Superbowl next year." I'm like what!? He says yeah, then I ask him how does he know. Then we both hold up my drive thru with him explaining that when he was in dallas texas, he heard of Prince's four-year contract with Superbowl. He mentions his knowledge of him already performing one a few yeears back. I remind him 2007. Then he's like yeah, so he has to do three more and his next one is next year.

So I'm soo excited over the news and I'm freaking out. I ask him if he is driving him and he says he doesn't know. Then I ask him his name, Robert Murkly . I should have asked him his limo company name, but I was still in brainshock, plus he was beginning to turn his wheel to drive along to the second window to get his food. So I released him from my info-sucking grasp and bid him a goodnight and thank u for the info.
Sorry for the next line I couldn't edit it off on this iphone

Now I don't know if everyone should get excited off a rumor thru a limo driver but u never know... I know I'm excited smile

but he's supposed to be coming next year for the Superbowl in indianapolis

I'm sorry, but why would you post his name like that?

:lmao:

That's almost as good as the chick who told everyone I work with she sang on Prince's album.

Really, I said, which one?

"New Power Soul".

Which song?

"Freaks on this Side".

eek

Yeah, you and three hundred other people chanting "Freaks...." I might have been there too but I don't tell people I sang on his album. uzi brick

This rumor is almost as bad as that rumor about Guns N' Roses reuniting the original lineup to play the superbowl.

We know that'll never happen. Axel hates Slash with a passion. Dude's got issues which goes without saying, right.

I call BS, but I'll play along for fun.

IF there is a 4-year contract, I would highly suspect that it was Prince who dictated those terms (and not the Superbowl committee).

Those terms would give him the first right of refusal for any eligible year, with the mandate from the Superbowl that there be at least a 4-year gap between performances. This would prevent him from basically "owning" the Superbowl spot for years at a time.

So, it's up to Prince when he wants to perform next - could be 2012, 2013, etc, all the while knowing that the next one after that is 4 years after.

Wild card: if the Superbowl is ever held in Minneapolis and/or features the Vikings as one of the playing teams, then Prince is automatically the performer. This would've been a demand from both sides of the negotiating table. In this case only, the previous rule about 4-year gap would be void.

biggrin

QuasarOfRock

Have any artists done the halftime show more than once?

He may be attending the superbowl, but I seriously doubt he's performing there.

Maybe he could do a bump & grind falsetto version of the national anthem, though.

lol

Is there even going to be a 2012 Superbowl? Was there an outcome to the player strike?

Are you serious? Even Billboard nominated it as the best Superbowl performance of all time. It was spectacular.

Even if all that was true, that is not mean he is prefer
Performing at the half time show. Could be any number of related shows or events. Could be just that he got tickets to the next several games. But he is not going to play the half time show anytime soon if ever.

Really? Yeah it was a greatest hits show but I thought it was pretty awesome. Esp with the song choices, and especially the lyrics he chose from those songs. "All along the watchtower, the Princes kept their view... Is someone getting the best of you?...not me I aint no fool. I thought he was trying to say something. Pretty cool for a Super Bowl halftime IMO.

By themselves the lyrics seemed light, but when I look back at a lot of his comments around this time: like "It's going down ya'll, like the system of banks..."(instead of "like the Wall of Berlin") at the 2006 BET awards.

He was warning us. Babylon was falling. And the low and middle classes paid for it. For all his cryptic speak, Prince knows his shit.

Average for prince or for super bowl shows? I can say I have only really liked a few of princes tv spots. But that has more to do with wanting more that 10 minutes! I need an hour at least!

Posts that are rumours are either deleted or locked.

I said Prince was going to play an MJ song on last years tour. He played a Jackson 5 song. The moderators deleted my posts, saying I did not cite a source. I guess on this website, you can't know anybody. It has to be a source in the media. Like a mag, newspaper, or online. Which never made sense to me as there are a lot of sources on this website. I know moderators have a hard job. But they take away from this site by not knowing whos who and why they know what they know.

Do some homework before you delete posts that are valid.

Prince doesn't believe in or sign contracts anymore...Case closed. Plus his per4mance was so massive & unmatched per4ming in the real 'Purple Rain". That he would want 2 leave that in the history books as the greatest Superbowl per4mance ever done period...Case closed again

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince
