My Computer

Hi,

A song I really like but despite owning a multitude of live albums I can't find a single live version. Does anyone know any live albums where Prince plays this song.

That's what I thought. I've got around 500 albums now and recently put together of live songs when I realized that I only had one version of My Computer. Shame as lyrically and musically it is a strong song.

But you can find a bunch of live versions of Jughead, Daddy Pop, Musicology, On The Couch, and even a few of Dumb Mr Man, etc.

Go Figure with Prince. Great songs rotting in the vault is one thing, but playing weaker songs live, and leaving songs like My Computer unplayed is a crazy. The fact that Computer Blue has only been played like 3 times after 1985 is just plain insanity

IMO this song only works because of Kate Bush on backing vox. She is 2 way down in the mix & if she was sending P her vocals then he should have used her better & made the song a duet. Her voice is so distinctive & that is probably why he`s never performed it live as she can`t be recreated!!

Cool song! But yes, probably too many effects to reproduce life successfully.

Also accoustic guitar wouldn't work would it, he kind of talk sings throughout.

It's sad because he didn't make use of her talents at all - he's such a fucking pussy when it comes to collab's confused

I always wondered if Prince wanted her vocals as a nod to 'Deeper Understanding' from Sensual World, since it's got a similar theme (and is a far more successful attempt at it).

it only works because of her background vocals, except you can't reall hear them? confuse

You can hear Kate if you listen to this song with a good set of headphones, but i agree with Nouveau's post.

This could have been a great collaboration, Prince is a fanny.

Your kidding? If we didn't have the booklet, we would never have known she was on it, Prince buried her so deep.

I'm guessing he changed his mind about her on it but didn't have the heart to can it so he just mixed her out of the way.

Technically, I never said I didn't like Musicology, but as far as his entire body of work goes, I would not be playing it anymore. The Work Part 1 is a better "James Brown Vibe" song...if he has to play such a song in his sets. My Computer or Computer Blue would be much better choices in my opinion.

Ok, you can't hear Kate Bush in the mix, but the fact that you can't hear her makes the song? I do believe the spaceship has not made contact with Houston. Like someone else said, if her name wasn't in the credits, you would not know she is on the track. Now when she sings with Peter Gabriel, there is no doubt she is there.

Your point is kind of like saying that Andrew Ridgely or whatever his name was had someting to do with Wham.

I remember reading one album's credits....George Michael: Lead Vocals, Bass, Backing Vocals, Producer, and writer of all songs....I think Andrew's credits were: In Photograph of album cover
