S.S.T.-Brand New Orleans (revisited) I wasn't on the Org when this dropped. Just wondering what the reaction was. Did a search and didn't come up with answers to my question. What's the general consensus of these two compositions? I wonder how much was generated for Katrina relief. While BNO is a total jam,I wonder if these musical efforts really help thevictims directly. my phone is heavy

I don't know about the victims of the hurricane but I consider myself a victim of the songs.
How horrible and poor they were!!

"SST" is OK... maybe a little too heavy on the bible references for my liking, but I think his intent was sincere. I just don't see what the bible references have to do with Hurricane Katrina - only the "chosen" / "deluded" (depending on your side of the fence) would make that connection I suppose . But yeah, his heart was in the right place - trying to raise funds for the relief effort. Can't deny that. "Brand New Orleans" is great for what it is - just a funky instrumental jam. Nice solos.
And as for how effective it was, I guess we'll never know. Do we really need to? It's not really our business I suppose. But if I had to guess, I'd probably say he sold 250,000 or so (given that even his smallest selling albums have sold that amount worldwide)... But who knows, really. i liked it and still do. nothing too special or mindblowing but it's a nice song. it has that "pearls b4 the swine", "she loves me for me" and "reflection" sort of vibe, which is love.
"brand new orleans" is just another nice instrumental. once again nothing as special as the stuff on Cnote or News, but it does sort of remind me of those very early unreleased instrumentals of his from '79 in a way.
just seen the single sell for 90 dollars somewhere and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

It's ok, I have no idea how much money it generated for the disaster fund, but the music is pretty much Prince by numbers. Nothing special. I like the cover. It's quite a rare cd now. They pop up from time to time on Ebay.

I personally find this one of his best songs (I always hear it as one song) of the 00s.

When I first got it, I probably listened to the cd a few times and put it away. Now,BNO sounds much better on repeated listens. Something about it reminds me of NPGMC.
I can hear the Cnote and NEWS comparison's.
