a much, much better album than the one he was promoting that year. for a bunch of leftovers, it sounds more like an album than that hodgepodge crap he slapped together as his mainstream/major label comeback release.

can't wait to listen!

Wholeheartedly agree. I didn't even listen to the Rave podcast, because I haven't listened to that album in 2 years, and not one of those songs I can listen to without shaking my head in disgust at his calculated attempt to sweeten his music to fit the playlist of radio stations playing bad hip-hop and r&b music. However, I can't wait to hear their take on "There Is Lonely". Prince's deepened vocal tone is completely underutilized.

I am aghast at the lack of reverence you all showed for "5 Women". It's a beautifully constructed song, the guitar work is subtle, restrained, and brilliant, and the mood it creates is unlike most other Prince tracks. I've loved it ever since I got my hands on that 'Yellow' boot that started circulating in the early 90s.

That being said, I LOVE the Podcast. But y'all are crazy!

Great podcast - thanks!!

I only snaffled a copy of this album last year and I was really surprised, it was much better than I had expected (given that it was described as being just put together to fulfil contractual obligations, etc...)

It made me wonder...if those were never meant to be shared with us - what else is in there that we'll never hear?? bawl

I actually really love "There Is Lonely", probably second favourite to "She Spoke 2 Me" music cloud9

Always interesting to hear other people's take on these albums - your mix of genuine musical knowledge and humour make for a really enjoyable show.

(song title edit...must've been in a rush wink)

I think the line in "Old Friends 4 Sale" about buying the picture, but he doesn't know how means that it's either a paparazzi photo or some kind of incriminating photo one of the old friends for sale has that they want him to buy to keep out of circulation. But he's at a loss and can't get his head around the idea of having to buy a photo of himself. I mean, who has to do that? I think the emotional way he delivers it might be an allusion to something along the lines of desperation over the very bizarre and disheartening circumstances that fame and fortune can lead to.

That's just my stab at it, anyway.

Great show guys. Will you be reviewing Newpower Soul? Also you're getting close to reviewing Crystal Ball and Emancipation. Those reviews are proably going to take 5 hours at least LOL.

Extraordinary is not a standard Prince ballad. It's a unique, great song.

They are so right about When The Lights Go Down. It's ok, but sooo long.

They overrate Sarah a bit. Standard jam song.

There Is Lonely is one of my fave songs ever. Doesn't anybody get this tune?

Prefer the original Old Friends.

5 Women is great, but prefer the sparse guitar version.

About That Walk. They nailed that. That song cooks.

Eh, it's a little too full of self pity.

No release date as yet as we are trying to figure out a mechanisim to release the shows, but it should be soon. We're happy with what we've recorded so far over the last few months, so we will start releasing them very shortly once we decide how and where to host them, we will probably notify everyone of release dates through our Facebook & Twitter sites in the lead up to launch, stay tuned

I was about to post something about this album. I listened to it recently and was happy with about half of it, so technically I liked it better than most of his post WB albums. I wish there would have been more of a commitment to packaging it properly because it really came off a slapped together contractual obligation... which it was, but there are parts of it that are a lot of fun. There are also parts of it that are really filler.

A good (not great) album which should be listened to again by those who have used it as a coaster for the last few years.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Honestly, I enjoyed your podcast much more than I enjoy that album. The only songs I like are She Spoke to Me and Old Friends 4 Sale (but even still I like the unreleased version of that song better). But it was very interesting review. It actually did make me consider taking another listen at this one. Maybe it will grow on me.

Yikes, did you need to use that particular word? I'm flashing back to the interview episode with Prince and the reason that a Montreux dvd has yet to appear. razz
