Great title for a cd. I've never seen the movie and I don't really understand the cd cover.

Can't stop...funky opener...but a little lacking in lyrics. However, the guitar interludes make up for it... A foreshadowing of lyrics in the next song "pardon me but this is my world." Nice message "only we can change the world" nice vocals and a little Dirty mind sounding the music. Happy song.

NPG great intro and sound effects A few lyrical ideas from Poplife in here right? "pardon me from thinking there's something underneath my hair" Again nice message but the delivery is a little hard for me to like it. Here the vocals are almost too loud. The "pardon me for caring" doesn't sound caring when it's shouted. But nice idea this song, the lyrics are good and some good musical aspects.

Release it - for those who love breakbeat, I'm sure this is well liked.

Question of U - Classic song, good intro only the first part that's a little high is sharp. Hypnotic beat, the lyrics and music really blend.....cool guitar solo, claps and some interesting chord changes. Wish there were more lyrics though. I like the live version more with Electric man in between. or was it Gingerbread man?

Elephants and flowers - A funky song, love some lines, but have no idea what the song is about.

Round and round - dare I say it's just round and round...and round....

We can funk - Ok, then maybe I'm not a true Funk fan? I don't know...I like funky music though

Joy in repetition - Don't like this one really. Reminds me of Dorothy Parker at the beginning, but the joy in repetition in this one doesn't grab me.

Love machine - Now I get why I don't listen to GB so much. there's not a lot of Prince on it. This one is also a little repetitive. Not a bad song, just not great either. But give me 20Ten or TRC anyday!

Tick tick bang - doesn't really flow or fit into my conceptual idea of music

Shake - nice beat but too predictable.

Thieves in the Temple - Absolute classic this one, still love it today and the video was as good, if not better than any MJ like minded one. Lyrics are not brilliant but the music is rich and varied. Unpredictable and surprising elements that mix together well. Needs a certain mood this song.

Latest fashion - probably fits into the movie somewhere, but doesn't really mean much to me as a cd track.

Melody Cool - funky track, easy to like and great chorus. Mavis has a brilliant deep voice I like it. However, one thing on this album, all the tracks just seem to be a little longer than they should be. Sometimes there's a lot going on and it can make it too busy to just sit and listen to.

Still would stand all time - It's seems weirdly placed this one on the cd, but it probably fits the movie. Haunting piano and lyrics, lovely harmonies, good title.

Grafitti Bridge - Musical intro sounds like a movie theme song but the lyrics well. Lets just say Prince has really moved on and grown in his lyric writing. Nice message sure but the song just doesn't grab me. it would probably help if I could visualise the bridge, but I can't. I have no idea what it is.

NPG II ................sounds like the guys who come and strip Youtube clean

In summary, I prefer modern Prince far more.

I was wondering, huh, why did I forget Paisley park, but it wasn't on there! Sorry OP. Can we say both these albums don't get a lot of acclaim or would that be untrue?

Graffiti Bridge (the album) does not receive a lot of acclaim because it's tied to one of the worst movies ever. That's a real shame, because on its own it's an outstanding album. Take off the associated artists, and it becomes even better.

ATWIAD suffered from people expecting Purple Rain II (which, as I posted earlier, it kinda IS). It served as a filter to separate the "Purple Rain" fans from those who'd stick around a while longer . . .

Naw, I do not hear that at all. I think that is a big stretch of overactive imaginations. Condition of the Heart sounds nothing like The Beautiful Ones, etc etc. on all the songs above.

It's not just the production, its the character of the songs and a heck of everything else that is different. They are night & day different.

I once heard Jimmy Jam or Terry say something about America sounding like Baby I'm A Star, but shit the "America" extended long ass version is a work of art resembling nothing in spirit or otherwise to corny-ass Baby I'm A Star.

80's Prince is beloved because every album was different than the last, and ATWIAD is no exception.

ATWIAD feels like colors, I think of a color when I hear each song,

You still feel the touch of Purple Rain music on this album, there is that dark mystery but on ATWIAD it's like Twilight, hard to tell if the sun is coming up or going down

ATWIAD feel more like the labrynth of halls and dressing room in 1st Avenue whereas Purple Rain feels like the stage & outside entrance of 1st Ave

God the Dance Electric could have easily been on ATWIAD and 2 me feels similar in many ways to Condition of the Heart & Temptation w/ending

I agree with your thought on GB the album. I think one of the things of the music is that it's kinda like a theif. Prince stole from his 1980's Prince some very good music(changed some songs) and put it out like this was Prince of 1990. When most of the best music on there came from the Dream Factory years and Tick Tick Bang from Controversy sessions. And like years later you hear this song or 2 on an album and it just stands out and I think a lot of people question when this song was actually made & was it pulled from the vault of the 1980's

I think that's also why some of the music on the Batman soundtrack were good because he made a lot of them during the Lovesexy era like the Future.

the release of Pink Cashmere (Lovesexy era) doesn't get it's due acclaim because of it's release date vs it's creation period.
