I'm quite sure that Prince's only contribution to the Like A Prayer album was "Love Song."

From Princevault:
Like A Prayer is the fourth studio album by American singer and musician Madonna, and her first and only to include input by Prince. The album contained Love Song (a duet with Prince), which is his only credited contribution to the album. Prince also plays guitar (uncredited) on Keep It Together and Act Of Contrition (which he also produced, and, in essence, created). In addition, Prince contributed a guitar solo to Like A Prayer which was edited out of the album version (which features no input by Prince), but is included on a version released on the Like A Prayer maxi-single.

Thank you, i never knew of those contributions, it still will not make me buy the album though.

Here's a previous thread with a Madonna interview in which she confirms Prince's contribution on 'Act of Contrition' and 'Keep It Together'

If you want to hear Prince on the song Like A Prayer... you need to get ahold of the "Remixed Prayers" CD. The 12" Club Version has him on Keyboards & Guitar, and the 12" Extended Mix has him on Guitar, including the solo that they edited out of the LP Version. Act of Contrition is mainly made up of backwards parts of the Club Version. There is also a promo mix out there called "Dub Beats" which has instrumentation from Prince, and a sample from Bob George. also the 7" Version (not one of the maxi-mixes) includes some of Prince's guitar work on the fade-out.

Which is very interesting, as The Black Album was cancelled back in 1989, when Like A Prayer was released !!

I just downloaded the remix versions, cool to hear the Bob George sample. "Dub beats" sound totally Prince

I just downloaded these remixes too, and i agree that the "Dub Beats" version is pure Prince in sound. I'm not a Madonna fan, but this shit is funky.
And thanks again to everyone for the info.

Not a Madonna fan and the Prince song was a weak one, notable only because of the presence of the two megastars. However, Like A Prayer is the most artistic album of a person who is much maligned for their actual talent, the album is the closest Ive heard of Madonna of which you could call her an "artist" not juist a pop star.

have you heard Erotica, Ray of Light or American Life?

no, wroter Madonna off after a point, but that album was great. The whole shock/image stuff put me off. How much credit should go to her for the music? I don't even know.

Well it's not like you have to pay attention at the image and the controversy while listening to the music. That's what the fans of a certain passed away artist always said.
However, you're not far off that LAP is different from the rest of her work, it's probably her only album when she wasn't "chasing" a sound (except, ironically, "Love Song") and just quickly put together a personal album that was based on real instruments. Then "Vogue" came and blew LAP away in terms of success and then Madonna and Warner started to focus on the beats and the producers, I can see why that was a turn off for many though. LAP is also a one-off thing in its subject matter, outside "fame sucks", Madonna never really broke new ground in personal lyrics after that. Again, not an issue for me.
Anyway, I never really got why Prince didn't take credit for the other stuff like "Keep It Together" but for "Love Song" that sounds painfully out of place.

No, he didn't contribute a guitar solo, he send her a tape of him playing wild guitar all over "Like A Prayer", and just a portion of it was used in one or two of the "Like A Prayer" remixes, and in "Act Of Contrition". © Bart Van Hemelen

Isn't Prince listed as "The Power That Be" in one of the songs?

Sigh... Is using bloody google that hard? PowerSSSSSSSS That Be. PLURAL. And Prince wasn't one of them.

Oh look, Madonna actually talking about the track and destroying all the bullshit posted in this thread. Took me FIVE SECONDS to google. But hey, Prince fans can't be arsed with actual facts and actually listening to songs, no, they need to make up shit and then propagate that as truth. In another interview (no link, sorry, but it's online), Madonna explains that Prince was in a studio with her for Like a prayer and Keep it together: according to her he came, recorded his rhythm guitar part on KIT, then played "some weird shit" to be used on LAP or whatever Madonna wanted to use it with. Madonna and her producer didn't know what to do with it and managed to include it in some versions of LAP and in Act of contrition.
For the record, Princevault and many other sources are mistaken when they claim that Prince's guitar isn't at all in the album version, because even though the solo from the 7'' version and the parts from the other mixes are missing, OBVIOUSLY the short guitar intro is Prince's "weird shit" and as it's not a separate track, it's part of the album version, period.
Also, it is to be noted that Prince's parts have been taken out of ALL the remixes of KIT, and many remixes of LAP.
Wikipedia (French version: http://fr.wikipedia.org/w...)#Versions) also mention a "7' version With Fade" that lasts 5:05 but as i couldn't find ANY evidence of it anywhere else, i have doubts about its existence (?)
In the end, we have this when it comes to Prince/Madonna collaborations (from https://sites.google.com/...raphy/1989)

and why wouldn't the intro part to the album version be by the same person playing guitar in the rest of the album version?
I really don't see any justification to assume that the opening guitar burst on the album version is by Prince.

Thanks guys..I line in San francisco,so I'm usually able to find anything I want. I got the 12" vinyl today(the 1 with cover art by Chris Ciconne) for 5.99. They had the Dub beat edition(with photo of Madonna) for $30. I passed on that 1!

Because it's the same guitar played by the same dude, the sound of P's "weird shit" is VERY specific. I might be wrong but then somebody prove me wrong ^^ A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/
