George A. Romero to collaborate with Prince

Source: Fangoria.com

Horror legend George A. Romero, commonly referred to as "The Godfather of the Dead", has announced his next project, which is sure to have horror and music fans excited and possibly confused. The project is the seventh film in his living dead series, which began in 1968 with Night of the Living Dead. The currently untitled project is being shopped as "7 of the Dead" and features a very unusual collaborator: His Royal Badness, aka Prince.

"Man, I just dig the guy and his music. He actually contacted me recently and said he wanted to work together. It's a trip man, I had no idea the little guy liked my stuff." Romero told Fangoria.

When asked about the nature of the collaboration, Romero was both candid and guarded with information.

"Look, I don't want to jinx anything, but I can tell you certain things. For one, he's not only scoring the film, and I'm talking about a full blown horror movie score. Beyond that, he wants to play a part in the film. He's very specific about this and wants to play a priest who is set on saving the souls of the dead. I guess even when they're up and walking around. This is going to be something very different for him. Hell, it's going to be different for me too!" Romero said.

When asked about possible conflicts with Prince's faith, Romero was confident.

"We talked quite a bit about that. I was raised a Catholic, and we talked religion quite a bit. He was able to quote specific scriptures concerning resurrection, and judgement day. He knows the Bible, I'll tell you that. I was worried because KNB is planning on some really over the top gore, but Prince seems ok with all of that. One stipulation: he doesn't turn into a zombie. Is that a spoiler? He doesn't want this to be Thriller, you know?" Romero said.

Prince's representatives did not respond to our request for a comment.

7 of The Dead, aka untitled George Romero zombie project is scheduled to start shooting in May, with an early 2012 release date.

Definitely an April Fool's prank...that would be really cool if it were true.

What the fuck man! I fell for that hook, line sinker. Thats the exact way Romero speaks and everything. The religious aspect is nailed too and to be honest I wouldn't mind the idea. It can't be any worse than some of Romeros latest output. Bugger that'd be awesome to find out not one but two of my idols were into Prince. The first being bill murray biggrin

Love the work that went into this one - nice one, NightGod.

I saw you saying in another thread that you hoped Prince would one day do something in the horror genre, so it was a bit of a giveaway, but I love the article all the same thumbs up!

And I should add that, for someone who was all but dragged against her will to way too many zombie flicks in her university days, you sure make the whole idea sound a lot more appealing than I would have expected it to be!! wink

Good work on this. But Prince & the J.W's would have nothing to do with this project. wink

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Although what I wrote is a total joke, I've always wanted to see a collaboration with my favorite musician and one of my favorite directors. I think that way back when, (before Larry Graham) that Prince could have appreciated the social commentary and humor that George put into his Dead films.

Prince created his empire in his hometown and put Minneapolis on the map. George did the same for Pittsburgh.

Anyone remember the rehearsal bootleg where Prince is quoting from The Shining, saying "Give me the bat Wendy"? Prince is obviously a movie fan, and seems to enjoy sci-fi quite a bit. Horror wouldn't have been out of the question....pre JW.
