"Cool" @ Le Bataclan - where's the crowd?? .
. Not to dwell on the whole "what he plays where" topic, but it seems like the crowd wasn't really with him on that song, which I found surprising. I imagine if P broke that one out ANYWHERE in the States, fools would have gone nuts! Especially since he actually sang some verses. Clue me in, anyone who was there - how was the crowd on that one? Is it just that I can't hear them? Is that song (and The Time) not so popular? Were y'all sleepy or what?

Actually a few years ago Prince played the song a few times at Paisley and nobody seemed to understand what was going on. He was trying to get people to do the hand signals, but no one was clued in as what to do.
...and Paisley Park is in America.

...and Paisley Park is in America. Maybe they were all just dumb I remember all that shit - the hand signals, hearing it on the radio & just losing it. That song was THE SHIT, so arrogant, so bold, so Prince... Could it be... :O a Black thing??? How'd the crowd look that night, Lovemachine?? More like coffee or cream??

BTW, this is not meant to cause ruckus or anything, but I think if people cared to look @ color lines (I know we shouldn't, but sometimes it's necessary) you'll might find something like this:
Just a simple observation... Didn't "Cool" happen before the crossover?

If I heard that song live, I would go absolutely nuts. It's easily my favorite Time song. And yes, I do like it more than Raspberry Beret (although I love both).
If I was anywhere to be heard, the sounds of the audience would NOT have been quiet on that one!

Bataclan is killer SIGNAL

Although Bataclan was a great show the whole Nighttown experience was more spiritual.I've never felt as moved as when he played 'Beautiful Strange' or 'Calhoun Square' that night.

He play a better and much longer version of "cool" at the soundcheck .

Don't bring race into it.I bought the Time's 1st album, and i like it alot.I'm in the UK and you can't hardly buy it anywhere.
I bet 1 in 50 people at Bataclan own that album. That's why the response sucked.

Okay, maybe it's a question of exposure - who knows how much exposure The Time's early stuff got in areas other than urban US areas. All I know is if I went to downtown Oakland & blasted "Cool", MANY people would be like, "HEY! " I didn't say if you're not Black, you CAN'T like it or you DON'T like it. I just know the song is a definite hit in most Black circles...

1/terms of music indeed don't work in France; please don't extrapolate US "black vs white" vision
2/ Bataclan was way better then Nighttown (i attented both and have both boots) 3/ C.O.O.L. didn't have the same exposure as in the US (actullally it's really not well known here in EU) 4/ quiete a few people did the "sign" thing that nite but didn't know the lyrics (the french R crap in foreign languages) 5/ the soundcheck version was indeed much longer and nicer 6/ Bambi rocked indeed (me ears R still roaring)

Simple. The "crowd" was back home a few miles away from the bataclan wishing they could have afforded the tickets to the show : 100 euros or dollars or whatever...Sorry to be so down to earth purple people but hey that's life also aint it unfortunately.
Never heard that song Cool, but then again I lost track somewhere a few years ago. I find it a little odd but funny that " hard core" fans ( can't find any other word sorry) always dig the one song that seems to have been only released in one more bootleg or I don't know what. It is a like a code you would need to know to be let in in the purple secret...! I totally agree about Something in the water though. It is one of the only albums I still listen to and love absolutely. But once again if you never heard the unreleased version bad luck for you it was o so much better then the other one ! o)))
