I got a Jimi Hendrix: Illustrated book for Christmas last year, and it's got candid photos, replicas of handwritten lyrics, original artwork and a pretty decent CD of unreleased versions of his songs. And it's pretty cool. Prince could've easily done this and blown away most other music "coffee table" books.

So now we have to wait until Prince is dead. Although to be honest I half expect some fantastic stuff to be released when that happens. Unless he takes it all with him of course...

The book is great, if you require a brochure for The Dorchester Hotel.

In fact, that is what they should have named it, 21 Nights.....at The Dorchester.

Hilarious! lol

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

Wow the crack you haters are smoking must be really good to make such stupid comments.

Nothing is wrong with the disc you are all just a bunch of funk haters who need to move on to another artist since P is not about to let go of the funk.

I have people borrowing the disc all the time who love it. Just proves that orgs are living on their own planet.

Another agreement. I don't know if it was just mixed too much, or a poor selection of songs from different aftershows, but the 3 aftershows I attended in 2007 were mindblowing, and the Indigo Nights CD, while good, definitely doesn't the capture the best of what those aftershows encapsulated.

Could any CD really ever capture the experience of a small club, energy just flowing from everyone in the place while sheer inspired genius stands before you and makes the world a better place for a couple of hours?

I think this is where we maybe expect too much of some of the aftershow CD's. Nothing beats being there, sharing those moments with complete strangers who you feel utterly attached to for reasons that are nigh on impossible to explain. Prince could have released every aftershow in some sort of big compilation, and no one CD would have captured the experience many are after.

Well, I have a shitty audience recording of the opening night, it it has so much more energy than this CD. Somehow, it lacks much of the energy. A bit sterile in comparison, with some good highlights though.

the book is average nothing special.too many pics of the dorchester ,nearly none from the shows ,

the stage , backstage the musicians, etc.only for completists.

but the cd imo is awesome.compared with most of the boots its in soundboardquality so for that alone its worth spending those few bucks.but I like it musically too, highlights for me: 3121,Rocksteady, Alphabetstreet, Indigo Nights, The ? of U, All The Critics ..

What I realised looking at this book is that it is a perfect encapsulation of what Prince is now. Botoxed, airbrushed, ultra-posed, fashion show, hotel corridor, airport, limosuine, complete absence of fans/audience, music virtually irrelevant. This is who he is now.

Thats what surprised me and don't get with Priince, was the absence of audience/fans and the concerts in the book....without both of them there would of be no 21 nights in London for him.

They had the book launch at The Dorchester, I won tickets for thanks to Gav and his wife at Housequake. cool

The book launch was cool. Randee St Nicohas and Beverly knight were there, they was friendly, chatting to everyone etc. I think a lot of people was expecting Prince to turn up but obviously he didnt, he wasn't even in the country lol It was fun night though even without Prince.

How the CD is?

Depends.

If you are new to live stuff then it is fantastic.

If you are a die-hard completist you might be disappointed in certain ways.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

These would be my friends and associates who are P fans but not die hards. Anytime I play this type of Prince disc for these sorts of people that love it.

I also heard some cuts being played on the local Pacifica station and lots of people called in with positive comments but you orgers who out on your own fucking planet do not want to hear that lots of people like "funk" and want to hear P perform it. Get the fuck over it already. You would think these sell-out short notice concert would make some of you wake up to reality.

I think you took it a bit too far. I think Indigo Nights is a fantastic live album myself, but to say that some Prince fans are "funk haters" is (very) far from true. People hate this album because it was made in the 2000's and not in the 80's.

And Im certainly one of the fools who rushed out and purchased the book & cd for $50! I've seen it in a store for $5 since then. Oh well. I admire Prince and his extraordinary talent, but I wish I hadn't rushed into buying the book. I enjoy the cd, and would have been happy to pay 18 bucks or so. The book, I didn't relate to much.
