The NPG's fast 1min rendition says virtually nothing to me.

the Exodus outtakes have never done much for me. the stuff that made it to the album greatly benefit from having Prince's co-lead vocals mixed in.

^Mainly it's that I love funk but I can't stand rock.

Aren't you somewhat mixing things here? There's 'Slave' on Emancipation (and also an unreleased version) and then an Emancipation outtake titled 'Slave 2 the system', which has a twin (but absolutely different) NPG version sung by Sonny T.

'Slave 2 the system' is the one I'm talking about here.

i like princey's version alot. it always shows up on my shuffle . can't even remember hearing the npg version. slave is also a good one

Many people are going off on the emancipation thing

I can see where a non booter would be confused "Slave" / "Slave 2 The System"

I love this song. The guitar is so funky and the lyrics fit the music well.

The variety in the song is also intriguing. Vocals particularly & the outro is also fitting..

Talking about nice endings.....
