Electric Chair appresiation

Hey guys!

I was just listnening to Prince's song "Electric Song", and I can't stop listening its soooo GOOD!! I had heard it before once or twice but never felt anything until now, like they say better now than never hehe. I love that whole part when he's screaming. Do anyone of you know who this song is about, I read somewhere long time ago that it was about him being gulity for taking cocaine, but I'm sure that's not the truth. So do anyone of you know? And also do Prince ever perform this song live? I've been to two concerts and he haven't sung it then and I haven't also seen this song being performed in the concert tapes, so do you know?

Take care all you Prince fans! biggrin

It's about insanity, there is a thread called One Night Insane that mentions this song on the set list.

Lyrically, it's very good:

"If a man is considered guilty
4 what goes on in his mind
Then give me the electric chair
4 all my future crimes-OH!"

I am definitely jumping on this appreciation thread!

Electric Chair is one of my top 5 released Prince songs.

....I got to have ya! headbang

(I never heard the story behind the song, though. I'm curious to find out if there is one.)

oh, hell yeah. Electric Chair rocks hard! def. in my top 10 tracks too, probably top 5. apart from the SNL live performance (which ranks among his best TV appearances ever!), not sure if he's performed it much live. lyrically it was inspired the Joker character from the Batman movie (his overall insanity) and the (Gemini?) alter ego Prince assumed for the Batdance and Partyman vids. Fon-kay!

I always just thought the song was movie based....with out much truth to it other than having a dirty mind.

Is it just the scream you like in the song?...or anything else about it?

I...usually skip this one on the Batman album...lyrics mundane, synths over the top...good that people like it though.

Yes, it's a good remix that one.

Coupled on the same cd with an Orbit remix of The Future.

Over all I like this era

It was dark just like Prince was going temporarily via the Black Album/Lovesexy

the Batman music(including outtakes) was still Prince, he still had waves of the Purple Rain-Dream Factory years & the Lovesexy (aftershow) experiences giving him inspiration.

If this music was just a Prince album it would have obviously had a turned up spin because he wasn't doing it for a movie but it would have been a hot era...

I saw your friend 1st
That's who I danced with
All the time I was watchin' U

The music rocked us
Our eyes locked-thus
Makin' us see a trippy picture shoo

If a man is considered guilty
4 what goes on in his mind
Then give me the electric chair
4 all my future crimes-OH!

U whispered something
It took my mind out like a
G flat major with an E in the bass
Your face looked so good
I wanted to touch your mouth
My brain is jackin' all over the place

If a man is considered guilty
4 what goes on in his mind
Then give me the electric chair
4 all my future crimes-OH!

Let's take a drive, love
So we can make up our minds, love
2 commit the crimes of passion
That sets us free
Me lovin' U, U lovin' me (me lovin' u, u lovin' me)

The electric chair

I saw your friend 1st
That's who I danced with
All the time I was watchin' u (I was watchin' u)
The music rocked us
Our lives shocked us
Makin' us see a trippy picture shoo
I've got to have it
Somebody...

If a man is considered guilty
4 what goes on in his mind
Then give me the electric chair
4 all my future crimes-OH!

U know I'm guilty, yeah, (4 all my future crimes)
Guilty, (4 all my future crimes)
And if ya don't really love me
(Then give me the electric chair) oh!

Electric chair

I do appreciate this song nod

I like to play my air guitar and do my own performance when I listen to it. My favourite part is the head roll just like he did in the '89 SNL performance nod

I love the whole song, but especially the scream it's sooo powerful in some way,it's like the scream in the song "Beautiful Ones", but that's a totally different scream razz

Me too!... Always thought the band that night, including Margaret Cox and Patrice Rushen, was on FIRE! and wished they would have been longtime fixtures.

Totally forgot Patrice Rushen was there. Really wish more would've come of that.

Just looked it up in the Vault, says Prince wanted her in the band at that point, so it seems Rosie filled her slot maybe as second keyboard player? Phew, I love Rosie, but Patrice Rushen?!

Didn't Margaret Cox become a Jesse Johnson protege at this time, or was it prior ... Tamara & the Seen?

Ta Mara & The Seen was pre-this. Their two albums were 1985 & 88, so I guess it was right after the second album, Blueberry Gossip, that she worked with Prince on MC Flash project.

O thanks. Funny how Prince must have been still checking out Jesse and what he was doing, ... that little competion edge, always worked well with Prince.
