I love Prince's version.

The NPG's fast 1min rendition says virtually nothing to me.

the Exodus outtakes have never done much for me. the stuff that made it to the album greatly benefit from having Prince's co-lead vocals mixed in.

Nigga please! The NPG version is da bomb. And leaving 'Funky' and 'Proud Mary' off the record was a crime!

And oh yeah, Derek Hughes singing Somebody's Somebody made the song a lot better!

Other way round for me.

I like the NPG version, I think the one on Emancipation is self-pitying and whiney.

It is in my opinion. "Slave" on Emancipation is a little less in your face than "Slave 2 The System". I hated the NPG version...I was glad he left that off of Exodus.

Aren't you somewhat mixing things here? There's 'Slave' on Emancipation (and also an unreleased version) and then an Emancipation outtake titled 'Slave 2 the system', which has a twin (but absolutely different) NPG version sung by Sonny T.

'Slave 2 the system' is the one I'm talking about here.

Hmmm, maybe it's been so long since I heard any of them. I was thinking of the quick 1 minute Exodus out-take.

You've just described about 80% of his 90's catalogue.

I can see where a non booter would be confused "Slave" / "Slave 2 The System"

I love this song. The guitar is so funky and the lyrics fit the music well.

The variety in the song is also intriguing. Vocals particularly & the outro is also fitting..

Talking about nice endings.....
