Purple Rain the song

After knowing Christ the song has taken on new meaning for me. I never understood it. When the guitar solo starts it's the blood of Jesus raining down. When prince starts to sing " oooh ooh ooh" it's the joy of cleansing as the actual waves of blood rush over you cleaning you of all sin. Then the majestic strings and spacey piano keys as your lifted up into heaven to be with God. Heavy song and well written.

Nouveaudance, i find your comment extremely offensive, disrespectful and prejudiced. Why would you make a comment like that on a public forum?

The same reason the OP made a comment about bathing in blood... because he's allowed to?

What a disturbing view of the song you have, but good on you I guess.

You think it's ok to make offensive comments on here about another person's religion? How about their race, their gender, their sexuality? All ok?

Did you also take a puff of a lsd-soaked pot joint and therefore a kundalini awakement?

It seems like you did the wrong choice by 'knowing christ'.

Jeez!

TBH, I find it sickening that someone would enjoy bathing in another person's blood - presumably with that amount of blood the other person would've been tortured to death or something. Creepy.

But it's a public forum, so we're all entitled to our views smile

isn't Purple Rain, about nuclear acid rain?

"The sky was all purple - people running everywhere", reference from 1999, then came Purple Rain.

About nuclear disaster?

Have to be thick skinned on here because some folk have no qualms about commenting negatively on another's beliefs.

After all this time, I still have no idea what is meant by 'Purple Rain', lyrically.

I get that he wants us to be uplifted by the song though.

Someone might want to ask Wendy & Lisa about the meaning...they seem pretty accessible...unless orgers can enlighten me / us.

Yes, but why should ANYONE start a thread about stupid beliefs and talking about them as if the rest of the world were idiots?

I find THAT much more offensive.

Isn't it ridiculous, childish, pointless, stupid, ignorant to write something like this?: When the guitar solo starts it's the blood of Jesus raining down. When prince starts to sing " oooh ooh ooh" it's the joy of cleansing as the actual waves of blood rush over you cleaning you of all sin...

That's fucking unbelievable.

Yes it was odd...but honestly that is kinda human nature...we all perceive things differently

Why does the song have to be about anything at all? Couldn't it just be a song, one with no hidden or obvious "meaning"?

Re the people above who think it's ok to go at someone's religion, you'll get it back in spades, be it for your gender, race, colour of skin, hair colour, political views, body shape, way of speaking - you reap what you sow. I agree the original poster is eccentric but that has nothing to do with Christianity - that's just a guys view, fair enough give your views on it. But if you think it's ok to disrespect the religious beliefs of millions of people, you look like ignorant bigots.

wow, I never considered the spilling blood of Jesus to be a "good thing"

I always thought that his senseless execution represented the sins of humanity, not that the flowing of his blood cleansed our sins.

It was in indicator of our sins. You might say Jesus died because of our sins, not so much for them. Maybe he died for our sins, meaning he died to show them to the world so that we might learn from them. But it was still a horrible killing of an innocent man, not some nice thing lol

It's a sad reminder to be good, that is how we can be redeemed.

oh, and I don't think that is what purple rain means smile

Christians even pretend to drink Jesus' blood which is pretty sick!

Well, see...blood is red and water is blue, so...when you put them together, you get purple. shrug

I loved it, then I liked it, but over the years Prince has turned it into a song that I don't really want to hear anymore.

don't have proof positive but i have always believed it was about someone prince was involved with back in the day(pre-purple rain) that i happen to know. she always rocked purple and even had a pair of purple suede western boots that prince admired and had copied. they met in atlanta after one of his shows and though both were clearly enamored of one another; an argument at an after-party on new year's eve ended their involvement. jesse johnson, jamie(his handler) and his then-bodyguard, rosie tried to avert the disaster but were unsuccessful. i remember hearing how the drive from macon back to atlanta took 3 times as long cause either it was raining like crazy or she was crying a river. don't think she ever got over the heartbreak cause she still won't party on new years eve and this year will be 30 years!! i'll go for the romance angle over theology but that's just me... confused

Wasn't there an interview with Tavis Smiley, where Prince says something like 'if there's blood in heaven, blue and red turns purple'?

Anyone remembers what interview that was!?

Calm the fuck down. If he can say "NOW I UNDERSTAND PRINCE'S MUSIC, HE IS BATHING IN BABY JESUS'S BLOOD," we are allowed to disagree with his opinion. God, lighten up. People are way too PC these days.
