What is the year that you liked the best since you became a Fan for Prince performances on tv? so the subject pretty much sums it up - what year really stuck to you as being the most televised year that Prince performed here and there since you became a Fan? For me i became a hard core fan like in 2008 so when LotusFlow3r came out he did a lot promos for that album. 2009 was a wonderful year (for me) to see Prince performing 3 nights in a row on leno and promoting that album like he did. I really thought he was like that for every album but now i'm realizing that he's not. discuss! Love God. Love Music. Love Life.

Eventhough I was a fan in the early 80's, for some reason those tv appearances don't stick out in my head. Maybe I was a bit too young to really absorb them. However, the stuff he did for Diamonds and Pearls (I guess that was '91) sticks out for me. The performances on Arsenio and when he did "Gett Off" on the mtv video awards were highlights.
I also remember 1996, I believe. He seemed to stay on VH1 back then. The VH1 Honors performance of "Interactive" and "Endorphinmachine" was killer!

The Musicology years were good. Emancipation was very good.

I really liked his Diamonds and Pearls/Symbol performances on Arsenio, etc (Gett Off on the MTV Awards was the shit!) but nothing compares to the Purple Rain stuff. Not sure but I think it was the opening night of the Purple Rain tour in Detroit, or was it the performance on the 25th Ann. Purple Rain DVD...whichever one, MTV showed "I Would Die 4 U/Baby Im A Star" every hour on the hour when it debuted.
Then "Purple Rain" on the AMAs. I was only 10 and had a 9pm bedtime. There's just something about that night...getting to stay up to see Prince then EVERYONE talking about it at school the next day. And the perfromance was killer--even with my dad sitting on the couch talking shit through the whole thing. Same story for "Baby Im A Star" the next month at the Grammys.
The "Take Me With U" video, Prince nights on Friday Night Videos and Night Trax on USA...it was a never ending purple onslaught.

The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame finale where Prince threw down the gauntlet on WHile My Guitar Gently Weeps is the greatest Prince TV performance I ever saw - and I have seen them all.

Man, you just brought back some memories. I had forgotten all about Night Trax! I caught some Prince stuff on a show called Night Flight on USA too. That was the only place I ever saw Sheila E's "Sister Fate" video. Those were the days...

I missed all the good years. I became a semi-fan in 2008 but I liked MJ more so I listened to him (MJ) the most. Then Lotusflow3r came out when i lost my interest in Prince so i didn't buy the album. In early 2010 i was watching the '100 Greatest Songs of the 80's' and Prince songs were on there so i became a fan again and my love for his music grows each day. I'm currently collecting all his albums, i have about 40% of them, but its too bad I'm only 16 and missed all the good years of Prince in the 80's and 90's...
I recently started thinking that i'm an 80's kid/teen stuck in 2011 because i like all 80's/90's music... "In the distance, 6 others will curse me. But thats alright, I will watch them fall."

Oh shit, you're right. Night Trax was on TBS, Night Flight was USA. Forgot all about Night Flight.
They were the ones who did "Minneapolis Nights" where they would show nothing but Prince, The Time, Vanity/Apolllonia 6, Sheila, Morris Day solo, Jesse Johnson...hell, they even threw in Alexander O'Neal.
We didnt get BET in San Diego till 1987...Night Flight was the only place I remember seeing Mazarati's "100 MPH" video.
Those were the days indeed... [Edited 3/15/11 9:38am] She has robes and she has monkeys, lazy diamond studded flunkies....

I got into Prince very early 2005, so unfortunately had just missed the Musicology craze, BUT all said and that 2005 was rather quiet and I think being in the UK the only time I saw anything of Prince was at the oscars presenting the award for best original song and a report on Musicology being the highest grossing tour of the year...
THEN... came 2006
Brit Awards BET Awards Good morning America Saturday night live The Webby's The Versace show '06
It was like the Musicology year to a certain degree, he was just everywhere!
loadsa stuff!
and what felt like the same year but of course was 2007......

lol I know what you mean, all it takes is the drop of a name or title and you go right there. I used to sit up on Fridays and watch MTV or FNV or NTrax and just record Prince videos (as well as TV performances)
My favorite was the I Would Die 4 U/Baby I'm a Star performance where he called the whole audience up on stage (all superstars themselves) and jammed and then ran down the middle isle with Big Chick following while the Revolution kept the party going.
My 2nd is the MTV performance of Sign o the Times, where the band came marching down the middle isle with their drums

wow...2006 seemed like a Prince overload on tv as well (recent yrs that is). no doubt tho that in the 80s and 90s the Fans back then they got the goodies!! and that's WITHOUT his music videos!! gosh im jealous of those ppl now...lol Love God. Love Music. Love Life.

I loved the performances of 91-92 too. Those you mentioned and the Diamonds and Pearls/Baby I'm A Star performance from the Special Olympics in MN. Also the Dr Feelgood performance from Australia? was shown on BET in the summer. The Gett Off Maxi Video and long form Diamonds and Pearls home video were all awesome. TRUE BLUE

That was killer too. I don't remember any other tv performances for SOTT, and NONE for Lovesexy...my favorite! TRUE BLUE

He did SOTT (jazzy) during the ONA or Musicology years on some talk show

I meant around that time, 87-88.
Wasn't it The Ballad of Dorothy Parker? TRUE BLUE

Possibly both, but I know he did SOTT I saw the clip, I believe he was in a tan 'suit' white open shirt curly hair, Rhonda was on bass and ONA drummer guy,

For me, I became a Purple Lover in 2008, so I guess the best would have to be 2009 with all the LotusFlow3r promos. It was awesome. Plus, I met great Prince fans online and 1 in particular who showed me the basis of collecting digital material, then left me with figuring everything else out on my own, which was an even greater experience.
But now, I would have to 20TEN into 2011 because of the upcoming concert I'm gonna go to! 20TEN album was awesome and again friends helped me out with getting my paws on it. If you think about it, being a Prince fan makes create connections internationally. Because there are Prince fans all over the world! Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

I don't know if that was a talk show. I know the footage you're talking about. The Dorothy Parker performance was for sure on Leno, I believe? And SOTT was at Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

Yeah..I been a fam since 1992, but Musicology was the YEAR that everybody started talking big about Prince in my opinion. He finally started doing funk again, his promos were out of control and it was my first time seeing him live...5 times, and first time being on stage with him. It took from age 11 to about 25 to finally SEE the man perform in person. More than I could ask for. The album was not that great however Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.
