He wasn't making fun of MJ, he was defending him. He was telling them to hold off on attacking him because you never know who a person really is. He might know something we don't know - he could be anyone from Jesus Christ reborn to the Antichrist, you don't know him like that, so let it go.

Right on Spot!!

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Lyrics....

"The Girl Is Mine" (Michael Jackson, the track from "Thriller"):

[1st Verse (Michael)]
Every Night She Walks Right In My Dreams
Since I Met Her From The Start
I'm So Proud I Am The Only One
Who Is Special In Her Heart

[Chorus]
The Girl Is Mine
The Doggone Girl Is Mine
I Know She's Mine
Because The Doggone Girl Is Mine

[2nd Verse (Paul)]
I Don't Understand The Way You Think
Saying That She's Yours Not Mine
Sending Roses And Your Silly Dreams
Really Just A Waste Of Time

[Chorus]
Because She's Mine
The Doggone Girl Is Mine
Don't Waste Your Time
Because The Doggone Girl Is Mine

[Bridge (Paul)]
I Love You More Than He
(Take You Anywhere)

[Michael]
But I Love You Endlessly
(Loving We Will Share)

[Michael & Paul]
So Come And Go With Me
To One Town

[Michael]
But We Both Cannot Have Her
So It's One Or The Other
And One Day You'll Discover
That She's My Girl Forever And Ever

[3rd Verse (Paul)]
I Don't Build Your Hopes To Be Let Down
'Cause I Really Feel It's Time

[Michael]
I Know She'll Tell You I'm The One For Her
'Cause She Said I Blow Her Mind
Chorus (Michael)
The Girl Is Mine
The Doggone Girl Is Mine
Don't Waste Your Time
Because The Doggone Girl Is Mine

[Michael & Paul]
She's Mine, She's Mine
No, No, No, She's Mine
The Girl Is Mine, The Girl Is Mine
The Girl Is Mine, The Girl Is Mine

[Paul]
The Girl Is Mine, (Yep) She's Mine
The Girl Is Mine, (Yep) She's Mine

[Michael]
Don't Waste Your Time
Because The Doggone Girl Is Mine
The Girl Is Mine, The Girl Is Mine

[Paul]
Michael, We're Not Going To Fight About This, Okay

[Michael]
Paul, I Think I Told You, I'm A Lover Not A Fighter

[Paul]
I've Heard It All Before, Michael
She Told Me That I'm Her Forever Lover, You Know, Don't You Remember

[Michael]
Well, After Loving Me, She Said She Couldn't Love Another

[Paul]
Is That What She Said

[Michael]
Yes, She Said It, You Keep Dreaming

[Paul]
I Don't Believe It

[Michael & Paul]
The Girl Is Mine (Mine, Mine, Mine)

[Fade-Out/Repeat]

What's there to know?...we've all got ears...I totally agree, he did defend him...after having a little 'jab' first...lol

p.s...I think most of us are aware he got the line from that song...coulda spared us the rest of the lyrics...

It's common knowlege that MJ was a fanatic about Prince, and Prince didn't seem to appreciate it.

First came the jab about the lame lyrics....secondly, Prince said to lay off of Michael, because, ultimately, we all need to come home, ala, pay the piper, ala, answer to a higher power.

I disagree that he was defending MJ at all...

I don't know that he was defending MJ, per se.

As I take it, he was telling the reporter not to judge people (MJ).

I thought it was funny that the reporter said Michael and Prince were the same size!

A fanatic concerning Prince you say?...I hear that a lot, you say it's 'common knowledge'...not once have I heard MJ say anything about Prince in public...and MJ absolutely never 'copied' Prince stylistically or otherwise, really didn't need to...can you explain more about this 'common knowledge', thing? If I remember correctly, Howard Stern had planted one of his cronies in there to ask offensive questions of Prince or something.

Prince actually realized who the guy was when he asked the question, and I think the question was something to the affect of "who would win in a boxing match (or fight)--him or MJ" at which point Prince laughs realizing he's being Jonezed...then he quickly recovers and says the "lover not a fighter" line and proceeds to defend MJ.

I can't see the video from here so I can't confirm it, but I believe it's the one that Howard Stern had a plant in there.

Howard talked about how funny that "lover not a fighter" comment was on his radio show afterwards.

^ Imo this MJ song sounds inspired by Prince music:

"Why You Wanna Trip On Me" (Dangerous)....

- especially the rythm guitar.

This is just IMO - please don't "trip on me now"..

How did he make fun of him? He pretty much playfully quoted one of MJ's own lyrics. That wasn't an insult. And after that, he explicitly expressed his support for him.

I think sometimes a lot of people just want to think they hated each other and were at one another's necks, so they read that into any comments they made about each other.

I bet MJ and Prince were homies.

Y'all listen to Genesia now, she's correct.

Listen people....IMO...if Prince sorta kinda showed more respect to Michael, like he waxes lyrical about Larry, Chaka, Mavis, Miles etc...you get the picture..we'd all be in no doubt as to whether he was complementing MJ or ridiculing him...comprehende?

Listen to Fasination by Prince..."so called King gives birth to so called Prince"... the song is about MJ.

There are numerous counts or MJ's fasination...The James Brown fiasco, MJ was the one who whispered into James' ear that Prince was also in the audience. My guess is that MJ met Prince earlier in the night, saw that he was "stoned", and set him up for the failure that is all over the internet. MJ also named his kid Prince, then came up with some story about him being named after his grandfather (OK)....What ultimately killed him was trying to do 50 shows at the O2...why?....because Prince did 21 nights.

Therein lies the difference between the two....both undoubtedly gifted performers, singers etc.

Prince has used his gifts to the nth degree...he has blessed us with vast amounts of music...and has stayed true to his beliefs. MJ, on the other hand, was not as concerned about fulfilling the "gift"....he was more concerned with money and breaking records, manmade concerns which led to his demise.

Prince has a strong character....he knows who he is, why he's here, and what makes him happy....God, music, performing and women, not neccissarily in that order. I suspect he's known this since a very young age, which helped to keep him grounded. MJ didn't have a clue who he was. I suspect he was a gay man who never came to terms with his sexuality. His supression of his feelings about himself, the torture that his father put him thru, the cosmetic surgery, the fondling of boys and the drinking made him a perfect posterchild for drug addiction.

Prince wins...(imo, of course)

Prince is one of the few people in the world who could to relate to Michael Jackson, and I think that is where he defends him. He knows what people say about him, and since MJ got it even worse, he knows how painful (and inaccurate) what people are saying might be.

Also, I think it was a warning that it's not good for a person, and in retrospect, he was right. All the attention we gave to Michael ultimately killed him. Not directly, of course, but the fact is we all seemed to encourage him to be weirder and weirder by giving him attention (not unlike a certain actor in the news lately).

The public is strange in that the more it is disgusted by someone, the more they want of them.

Revolution...Yes 'Prince' is the name of MJ's grandfather.

Woah...a lot of conjecture in your post...MJ met Prince earlier in the night?...saw that he was stoned?...your guess of course...

The O2 is the VENUE over here in the UK...50 dates?...well that's just Michael always larger than life!...not Prince's influence.

The song 'Fascination?'...well there ya go...how about the other way round then? Prince was fascinated by MJ...he's doing all the commenting...

Staying true to beliefs?...some would argue the other way round...Prince was crude, seemingly interested in promiscuous cheap sex, for most of his career...can't think of anything more primal and 'man-made', than that. No spirituality there I'm afraid...he used the word 'r*pe in 'Extra Loveable', sorry to remind y'all.

MJ more concerned with money?...LOL...everyone knows he gave the most to charity out of any artist?...on a continual basis!

Prince is grounded or stoned?...which is it since you mentioned both?.

Michael's 'drinking'...lol...yeah he was known for his drunkeness wasn't he? (sarcasm / on)...who was stoned on stage again in your opinion?...lol

I can't think of a stronger character than MJ...whole world was against him at one point, his father's abuse (like you mentioned)...

MJ was gay?...yawn...next..

MJ didn't know who he was?...have you seen him performing as a child?...he was the most grounded kid you'll ever see.

When you say he 'fondled boys'...well we know where YOU stand on that then = you WANT to believe it, since he was found 'not guilty'.

In fact all you've done is make an excellent case FOR Michael!...for much more reason!...

armpit...when you say he 'playfully' mentioned MJ's lyric...many construe that as Prince taking a stab at MJ's masculinity...since many can't imagine MJ as being a 'lover'...wish I didn't have to spell out the obvious to you...

I think you take Prince too seriously. Prince is a pretty affable guy about some topics. Your reference to Prince's lyric about so-called King giving birth to so-called Prince is simply a sly jab at Michael whose son Prince had just been born. Prince himself has never, not once, said something that was mean-spirited about Michael in public.

In the end, you are right. He is saying MJ will eventually answer to a higher power. You don't know who he is. Let it go. God will judge him if there is something to be judged so for now, you can hold off. That was his point. And that was mine. That Prince is defending Michael, telling people to lay the fuck off him cuz the haterade is tired.

I'm sure you don't need to be reminded of the Jesus Juice MJ was so fond of....

Prince has experimented (who hasn't to some degree?) but he backed off. MJ couldn't. I say it's because of the strength of character.

This is America, where "not guilty" does not equal "innocent"....like Prince said, he'll pay to the higher power.

How did Michael copy off Prince? Both of their music is a lot different from eachother. Michael's music is more about the media/fictional things (like Billie Jean/Thriller/etc.), while Prince's music is about love/sex/women. They sing different styles of music and there is no reason to compare them, or say that MJ copied Prince.

[On another note] Prince wasn't offending MJ either, he was just saying that Michael doesn't fight.

People are always trying to dream up a conflict between MJ and Prince. Some real catty high school shit.

I'm sure Prince hated MJ and that's why he put Shake Your Body Down To The Ground in his setlist after MJ died because........................................ He wasn't a fan.

I'm not a fan of MJ, but I do believe both artist truly had respect for each other. One of MJ's nephews even mentioned that in a interview as I heard one say on the radio not long ago. I think the only feud was between the fans.

Very true, Lightspin... that probably came out of frustration of years of people assuming this or that about Prince himself...... so, he's letting them know that MJ might be a great person, in other words... " I am, too"... so go read another book, press folk!

That little white dude most certain copied Prince.

1) Unless you're talking about him as a child, "little" should never be a word used to describe Michael Jackson.

2) Prince has never been on the cover of Vogue, and plenty of men have been known to wear plain suits and hair just like that. When I first saw that photo, I thought of Bowie and Rod Stewart.

3) bored

In fact all you've done is make an excellent case FOR Michael!...for much more reason!...

armpit...when you say he 'playfully' mentioned MJ's lyric...many construe that as Prince taking a stab at MJ's masculinity...since many can't imagine MJ as being a 'lover'...wish I didn't have to spell out the obvious to you...

peace to all

I'm sure you don't need to be reminded of the Jesus Juice MJ was so fond of....

Prince has experimented (who hasn't to some degree?) but he backed off. MJ couldn't. I say it's because of the strength of character.

This is America, where "not guilty" does not equal "innocent"....like Prince said, he'll pay to the higher power.

Jesus Juice...prove it. And before you say "his behavior" let me remind you that most famous people act weird/ do weird stuff.

How can you judge MJ's strength of character?

Not guilty and innocent have different meanings in most countries. You're referencing the trial which happened in '05, yet Prince made that statement in 2001. So P can probably see several years into the future according to your logic.

Give it up. His statement about leaving MJ alone was simple yet somehow you're manipulating it so you can fulfill your own agenda. Grow up.

time flies.
