That was my first thought when I saw the title to this thread. Tho, I wouldn't say he hasn't been the same since, but I do feel that Batman was a big distraction from what he was doing and had planned to do. I wonder what it would've been like if he was never offered the Batman project.

Yeah, I've wondered about that too. I'm not saying it was the kiss of death or anything, but it sort of broke his stride. It marked the first time since the late seventies where he seemed to be focusing more on sales than art. Unfortunately, it wasn't the last time (D&P, Rave, etc).

End.

the word was that He needed some Cash Flow.it was easy Bread plain&Simple.but it did come with a cost&affected Him.because He came right back with "Graffti Bridge" Another SOundtrack& a Easy Access Pop Album with "Diamond&Pearls"&the Symbol Album followed by the Hits Set.

Yep. I won't say that he made those albums for money (maybe he did?), but he definitely made them to sell big, compromising his artistic integrity: Batman, D&P, and Rave. There's some good songs there; afterall, he's still Prince, BUT you can tell the difference from his other albums.

Do you think the Symbol album was created with the same intention or motivation that was behind Diamonds & Pearls? I seem to group them together in my mind, but I'm not so sure since Symbol (to me) is a much better album. Perhaps the success of D&P made him feel a little more free to be experimental and artistic again?

they basically are the Same Album except the Symbol Album has a More groove base Element but they are cut from the same cloth IMHO.also Prince wanted them both out a week from each other but Warner's said no to that.He had to play up His Pop Role you know&Generate a Hit&Some Hit Songs. He dissed this Album On His Site a few Months ago talking about dealing with the Pressure of keeping up with that element he was dealing with.New Jack Swing,Rap were leaving Him behind&He felt the Pressure to hang&Peer Pressure.when you work for a Major Label&you are a Major Artist the Bottom Line you have to Hit or Sink.Expectations were running high back then.

I was upset when I didn't get into the TRC discussions at PP at the 2001 celebration, but I let it go along time ago.

Allow himself to be intereviewd by 'Scary Spice' Mel B. He must have agreed with it coz he knew it would be a one way conversation!

She'so dumb!

Mel B- "Romeo Romeo let down your hair"

Prince- "Er... no, it's Rapunzel" (correct spelling? Now who's dumb!)

Oh... and of course any album between D&P and Emacipation (with the exception of some trax on Come).

AND I GOTTA ALOTTA BUTTA 2 GO!

The weak punk ass shit he pulled on the Time. Pulling them off the shows in the important cities with the critics, like New York city and LA, because they were kicking his ass every night. I was living in San Antonio TX., during the 1999 tour. The time didn't even have all of their people on stage (Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis) and they still kicked his ass. The people in those cities should've felt cheated.

Each and every time he announces a paisley party and then cancels it at 1:30 am after I have driven out there! THAT pisses me off.

And yet I forgive him each time. Damn it.

Before Crystal Ball w/The Truth was released 1-800-NEWFUNK released a cd single of The Truth w/ Don't Play Me which cost $20.00. I bought it of course and then a few months later Prince announced he was going to send The Truth cd free to anyone who made a contribution to some charity. That pissed me off. I paid $20 for a cd single - thats incredibly overpriced don't you know. I wanted a free copy of The Truth. I think I called 1-800-NEWFUNK and complained.
They never went thru with giving The Truth away for free did they?

Yeah - I had finally for the first time in my life got FRONT ROW seats to a Prince show in San Diego (maybe 98 Superbowl weekend) and the MF went and cancelled the show.

Another time I went to see him near LA and this was also in 98 - I didn't have front row seats but as we pulled up to the Arena on the radio it was announced the show was cancelled becaue he hurt his ankle in practise.

Also, when he had his own magazine a long time ago - I paid for like 4 issues and he only put out 3 issues. No one else ever got that last issue we were promised.

I love Prince and all but man was I pissed about that front row deal.

Welll.. I wasn't really mad at him per se... I was just mad at the situation.

He put word out on the website that there was gonna be a party at Paisley Park on August 9th of 2002. This would've been the first party since the Celebration and me & my crew were amped for it... especially ME! It was like I was on a caffeine high or something. I spent the night at my buddy's house and when I woke up early the next morning, I couldn't contain myself! I was so excited to be going back to The Park... you'da thought I was on speed or something!! stoned I was bouncing around, singing themes from cartoon shows nuts... even drove my buddy's roommate to work cuz I couldn't sleep anymore! I did finally come down HARD for a little bit and crashed back out again. zzz

We left out that afternoon and went to pick up a couple other friends who were gonna make the trip from Chicago with us. We all congregated at my boy's house before hitting the road. That's when we got the call from MN around 3pm that the party had been cancelled!! I was sooo dissappointed!! cry I think I pouted for the remainder of the day! mad It wasn't like we had already hit the road or anything ... I was just majorly disappointed cuz I REALLY wanted to go back and party at Paisley Park. I understand the risks involved in making trips up there for a party and I accept them. Prince can cancel a party at any time without notice. It's the chance you take when you decide to drive up for a Friday nighter at Paisley. I can live with that. All the other times we drove up were more than worth it!! This time, he cancelled it early enuff to where we didn't really lose anything, like time spent driving on the highway! No harm, no foul. Still, I was not a happy camper! johnwoo chainsaw

Again, I wasn't really mad at Prince..., it was just the situation!! He's still and always will be my BOY!! kisses nod

the only thing that P does that u can consider... "upseting" would b the fact that P is so ellusive on his dealings with The NPGMC business & what not. otherwise i b*lieve in being... patiient when it comes 2 musical releases. i'd like P 2 just dabble around with the Xpectation & Xenophobia styles of Music...

can u say: MadHouse!?!?! music
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
