Definitive collections of outtakes

I more or less got 'em all but from many different souces. What would be the best massive collection of outtakes when it comes to both being compehensive and sound quality? & by sound quality I don't just mean bitrate but also original copy quality (i.e. a 5th gen tape in flac will always be worth than a 1st gen copy in mp3 ^^).

I know about The Work, Work It, 30 Years Of Unreleased Funk and possibly others but which one should I download?

Thanks.

This has been discussed to death.

With Work It and 30 Years you're pretty much done outtake-wise.

Work it 2.0 is excellent and probably the best quality stuff available. Sadly it doesnt have electric intercourse, but thats just one song

Download Box O Choclates, Dawn 4.1 and Dream Factory too

I have the work but its inferior in quality to work it.

Yeah I guess it has been, sorry.

So do u mean I gotta get BOTH collections in order to get each and every outtake or that some versions on one collection have better sound quality than some on the other and vice versa? eek

Thanks.

Work it has nearly every outtake circulating (not Electric Intercourse as the studio version -if it exists- it's not out there) but 30 Years was released after it and some outtakes have better quality.

I'd forgot about BOC, sorry. That one is a must have since quality is much much better.

Dream Factory is interesting as a 'configuration' (there are 2 or 3 different ones) and The Dawn is interesting as a fan-made experiment of how could've that been if ever released, not as an outtake compilation since most of the songs are edited, augmented or modified in some way.

As far as unreleased stuff goes, 4DF's 'Playtime' is the perfect complement to any good outtake encyclopaedia: it contains all the unreleased songs that have been played live or in rehearsal and of which no studio version exists or circulates.

Cool, thanks cool

BTW The dawn is nowhere close to what Come/TGE would have been as a triple album in 94, since it contains several songs that were recorded in 95/96. I'm sure it sounds good, though, but too many people are mistaken in thinking it's what a 1994 triple disc set could have been.

The Dawn is a fantastic release, I try not to view it as something that could have been, more just a collection of great music, beautifully put together.

Nice package.

As for outtakes, I dont have anything to add here, vitriol has said it all.

IIRC The Dawn's aim is not reproducing a Come/TGE triple release.

I think the intention was to reproduce a follow up to Emancipation. That's why some 95/96 songs were included.

The first 'The Dawn' was a 1986 film & album project.

The second was a Come/Gold 'compilation'

The third was a triple album after Emancipation.

4DF is 4DaFunk, a FREE label who put out high quality unofficial recordings.

They are not available on cd, but are free for anyone to download from the interweb.

I'd challenge anyone to tell a 2nd Gen tape in flac over a 2st Gen in MP3. Hell, most of the existing flacs are ripped from MP3 sources anyway these days.

It would save EVERYONE a lot of bother if copied studio and live material was thrown out in 320 MP3, rather than the wannabe audiophiles pushing Flacs and RARs.

If the source was loseless fine, but not the everyday stuff that has no benefit except feeding the audiophile need to feel different.

Flac off needs to be said. wink

Course it doesn't matter smile

Personally, I have my unreleased studio matieral (sourced from Work It, 30 years etc) divided into 'sessions'/era or project, made a cute little cover for each era and that's how they sit in iTunes. Still got all the flac files in their original state, so no worries.

I don't need lousy mp3's when lossless flacs are available. (IF the source was lossless)

Every serious collector thinks the same, not the other way around like you describe it.

I've been wondering for years if Ozlem does it on purpose or not and i've concluded that yes, he does.

No one can be THAT confused and do nothing about it despite people telling him all the time that he's not making sense lol
