Ok, I just bought LOTUS/MPLS/BRIA

Just bought the three cd set for 8 bucks, tell me, what in your opinion is worth listening to and what should be skipped?

Don't even bother listening to MPLSound. It's horrendous.

Listen to it yourself, form your own opinion then come back for others' - you're just gonna get a load of subjective chatter before you even give it a chance?

BTW, MPLSound is DOG SHIT. smile

skip Bria.

LF is great.

MPLSound has its moments, but is uneven and poorly sequenced.

This kind of idle opinion chatter bait thread is weird. Why would you actually skip anything based on anyone else's opinion? Not only are Prince fan opinions typically split down the middle between "good" and "bad", those are further splintered by WHAT people think is good or bad - and usually those choices are quite different.

I love it all....haven't listened to Elixer that much however.

Prince is a smooth songwriter...he writes tons of shrouded lyrics.

But, "Elixer (He licks her).....yes he does" reveals his entire hand....lol

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

whatever, I'm not skipping anything, just want opinions. Can't tell you how many times I've checked out something that I either hadn't heard before or hadn't listened to closely, because someone on these forums gave a shout out.

first let me say that i encourage you to form your own opinions and defend what you like and give the cds a chance.

listen to each as their own album and try to disregard comparisons to past work. personally would say Lotus is a great disc, could stand alone among his better works and has arguably gotten lost in the trilogy. very cohesive, intentionally "hendrixian in parts", peep the guitar work on wall of berlin, dreamer, and colonized mind (his best "guitar ballad" since purple rain). not sure what 'version' of Prince you prefer so u may find love like jazz cheesy, but i like it. $ is original and refreshing.

MPLSound is severely hated here. considered a thin, retro redux of his heyday. Dance 4 Me is excellent as is Here, (this was unexpectedly catchy and in heavy rotation for months with me) Better With Time, (one of his best ballads in recent years) and Old School Company. i think Valentina is quite clever, something only P could do (great Santana like guitar work in that track). There'll Never Be Another and Chocolate Box are boastful, fun Prince, but each may be a bit too long, they feel a bit forced, esp, the former. not complete throwaways tho.

Elixer has a couple of tracks that i like, but overall i think the material should've been given to a stronger vocalist. (i suggested Chante Moore) All This Love, Here I Come are above average and are the only two i can recall that i would listen to again. my wife thinks its a better album than it gets credit for, says it sounds distinct, and she's a "hits" kinda fan. she likes Home. just her "female" perspective thrown in for good measure

just my 2 cents, curious to hear what you think

MPLSound is the best - the last 3 tracks make it all worth it - Better With Time, Ol Skool Company and No More Candy 4 U.

Ur Gonna C Me is beautiful - an amazing and much improved re-work on a 2002 track imo.

Lotusflow3r is good but doesnt flow quite so well

Bria's is so-so except standout track Elixer which is amazing!

Actually, all the cds are good-MPLSound takes some getting use to, but it is great. Lotus is exceptional and yes even Bria's Elixer is a good listen wink The only thing that bothers me is Prince's need to redo Ur Gonna C Me-the original on ONA is still the best.

Come back and discuss it after you listen! If you get a buncha people saying something is bad, it subconsciously (and sometimes consciously) colors your opinion in advance.

Absolutely enjoy the entire set and let it digest, its a lot of material. One side has more rock oriented stuff along the lines of Jimi and Santana, one side is more retro sounding along the same lines as Newpower Soul and Emancipation. There's high points and low points, of course, but they are entirely subjective.

The third disc is Bria's first and only album. It's filled with stuff that sounds similar to Janet Jackson's Discipline record or even 20Y/O. Personally, I liked Discpiline as a record, but I have not given Bria's album much of a chance because I don't really care for her voice and I find that to be a dealbreaker.

Yeah you are going to pre judge the tracks before hearing them? What is the point of doing this? I would have listened to them already before I got on the internet...

Anyway, I do think Lotus is the more well rounded disc of all three. Very versitle and has alot of color. Mplsound is ok. The uptempo tunes take over the ballads; which are kinda tame.

Bria's album is alright too. Immersion, Another Boy and Elixer and very well done. It is like a 'love and romance' album. Nothing too exciting, but has some nice elements thrown in.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

When you get a new album, why would you not just play it from beginning to end in sequence?

I didn't like the Lotusflower disc. At all. Now, I like Crimson and Clover, Dreamer sort of (I was going to type 'Creamer'...sounds like a better song already lol), Colonized Mind and that's about it.

I really can't stand the first two tracks on MPLSound but quite like the rest.

Brias voice is not terrible, just a bit of a nothing.

listen to the whole thing

Lotus Flower is an outstanding peice of work... easily his most cohesive and finest collection of songs that sound like they belong together in some time

MPLsound is not as strong... but has its share of songs that really get the head bobbin! Including the absolutely ridiculous funk of Old Skool Company

I haven't listened to Bria's cd at all. I listen to "Dance 4 Me" and "No More Candy 4 U" from "Mpls Sound". However, I listen to the entire "Lotus Flow3r" cd. I love it! Lots of guitar.......

For the past few weeks I've been primarily listening to 2 cd's in rotation (at work mind you biggrin ) - "LotusFlow3r" and Jamiroquai's "Synchronized".....over and over again for 8 - 10 hours straight biggrin .

LF is hot!

Great overall project, with the LotusFlow3r disc being the best. I don't understand the hate for Bria's disc. She may not have the best technical voice, but it is pleasant. MPLSound has urban pop written all over it, good urban pop that is! Everytime I play this set, it takes me all the way back to the Spring of 2009, when I first got it and played it over and over.

Lotus Flow3r is pretty much all great - Can't think of a track that I don't enjoy. I recommend listening straight through!

MLPSound is mostly terrible - That said, there are 2 very bright solar flares among the bleakness: "U're Gonna C Me" and "Here" are both amazingness.

Elixer (Bria) is actually pretty listenable. It goes down smooth and doesn't linger in one's memory too long, but it's a nice chill out album.

I've seen the future, and boy it's rough...

sweething

Listen to all 3 albums.

Lotusflow3r is the best, funky with Dreamer, $ -- very Prince at his best.

MPLSound is good too.

I liked Elixir, it may take a few lessons to truly absorb but don't give up on it.

enjoy!
