Anyone that pre-ordered Crystal Ball direct from 1-800-New-Funk should've received "The War" for free. So there's probably quite a few "die-hards" that have an original cassette copy. "You've got to believe in something... why not believe in me?"

I have it. I don't like it. But after I recieved it free, I got a letter asking me to send a dollar for it. Didn't everyone get this? I just realized I owe Prince a dollar.

I have it! I pre-ordered 'Crystal Ball' so they sent me this cassette for free.I've only listened to it maybe once or twice, though.

Yeah, I've got it and its great! The only thing is, its murder listening to anything on cassette, so I rarely listen to it. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...
My dance project; www.zubzub.co.uk Listen to any of my tracks in full, for free, here; www.zubzub.bandcamp.com Go and glisten

I have the cassette too -- it was sent out to those who pre-ordered Crystal Ball. It was also sent with a Jam Of The Year T-shirt and Emancipation lyric book.
I don't play the cassette often, but only because it IS a cassette. I played it twice, and then put it away (for safe-keeping). It's great, but not something that I could listen to often. I do wish I had a CD (or MP3) of it. For those of you who don't have it: Imagine a cross between "The Matrix" and "Left Behind" and you roughly have "The War".

I pre-oredered Crystal Ball, it came in a clear circular box with the truth and kamasutra included. However I didn't receive "The War" or any other cassette. I feel really sad now, I thought I had it all. Except I haven't got one night alone either. I paid £50 for it on ebay and apparently it was sent nearly two weeks ago but still hasn't arrived. This is a prince conspiracy, No War and no One Nite Alone, what's a man to do? It were proper bo I tell the!! Bo Selecta!

I have this on CD because there was a time when some people got a "master" CD to distribute within the community for free. (I don't remember the year right now). Anyway at that time some people were chosen for the distribution process and I came to know somebody that got the copy from somebody...

I received the tape in the mail and then a year later I bought the cd at Paisley Park for $10. I was also there when he performed it live and let me tell you that you are very lucky he edited it down to 25 minutes for the release because that song was long and boring. Live he stretched it out to like 45 minutes or more and nothing happened.

Around '97, right? I think we were supposed to give that dollar to the "distributer" and he/she was supposed to send the collected sum to Paisley Park... or something like that. I never DID find anyone in my vicinity to burn me a copy. You guys wanna start it all over again??? "Whatever skin we're in

I have it also, it s a good song.
But I have to say I never understood what it was about (due to my english...). Can someone give me a clue ? I can only compare it with TRC and the 2 are very similar in my mind.

Anybody know who was in the band and in what year it was recorded? I'm guessing 1997 and the then NPG line-up of Kirk Johnson, Rhonda Smith, etc, but I'd like to know for sure.

The War was recorded June 20, 1998. That tree distribution was at the end of 1998 and soon after that the actual CD became available for purchase at www.1800NEWFUNK.com for $25.00!
The gig featured Morris, Rhonda, Kirk and Mike Scott and I think Mayte was there dancing as well. I wasn't there.

I speak English and I still don't fully understand it... "you give me candy...you keep the store"? "One for me, two for you"? The preacher lied? not the truth?...(oh I understand that part). Microchip in yo neck? But, hey, it's the jam! So...how's everybody doing?

I ordered Crystal Ball originally but never received the tape. When I discovered it was circulating, I phoned up 1-800, as it then was then, and explained I had not receives a tape.
They mailed me out the tape together with the Love Sex Liberty T-Shirt and Emancipation Lyric booklet. I purchased the CD from the site whilst it was available. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.
