So I just noticed that Prince didn't really do much after 3121 came out. Musicology had this big tour, and you'd think Prince would have been capitalizing on all the attention he was getting. On the one hand he made some expensive videos, but on the other hand he only started the Las Vegas Rio thing 6 months later. What was he doing after 3121 came out?

He was locked in his room crying for making such a horrible album. Even worse than Musicology!

Wow, you have some catching up to do. Since 3121, he performed at some private events. Later, he released the Lotusflow3r album, then did some concerts in Europe. Following that, he put out a cd named "20Ten", which was released in Europe, but not the U.S. Then he did some more shows in Europe. He recently performed a series of shows in NYC/NJ in December 2010/January 2011, and did 4 shows in Oakland, CA last month.

There was also a LOT more that was supposed to happen, but it never did. A lot of business ventures with the 3121 branding on it. The perfume is the only thing that really came of it. But there was also supposed to be a tour, some nightclubs/cafes, a clothing line, etc.

still, immediately after his album went #1, he kind of disappeared. He did Vegas and London, but really not much to promote the album while it was still hot.

Right before, he did Fury on SNL and created quite a buzz, capitalizing on the Musicology momentum. Then the album bame out at #1, then nothing.

I suppose he did do a video to black sweat.

That was before and right after 3121 was released. Not to mention her album kept getting pushed back.

I guess the movie "3121" falls under "etc." .

Seriously though, I think that movie project was by far the most anticipated thing off of 3121. The CD even hints at that by saying "3121: The music". But what happened to the movie? There were some vague hints that he had shot a movie in Panama but nothing really materialised from that.

Do you know why that project was canceled?

You answered your own question. He was rehearsing.

Exactly. Plus, he played two dates at the Empire in Vegas in May and was on GMA (and played Butter the same night) in June.

Not to mention how busy he was pulling the plug on the NPGMC.

OP here: I should have been more clear. Sure he (eventually) did Planet Earth, London, Lotus, perfume, etc. But no real promo for the album. Rehearsing for Rio? I don't really buy it - he doesn't need 6 months to prepare for that. Looks to me like he just abandoned 3121 after releasing it. I agree it's not a great album, but he sure could have capitalized more on the attention he was getting. Divorce etc sounds more like the real story.
