I just don't see it as Mani's "insight." I see it as her immaturely taking a stab at Prince to get some attention. She hasn't been with him in years and now, after all this time, thinks she can talk about him like she knows him? Please! Had she said it back in the day, then it would have been thought provoking. But now, she just looks like a jealous ex. I mean, wouldn't it be the same thing if Prince had said this about her?

Afterall, Prince has a lovely new GF, is making quite a mark with his recent W2A tour, and is just all over the place right now. Not to mention, there could be some truth to Prince uninviting her and EB from some event or however it went. Charlie Sheen isn't suffering from a mental breakdown, he is a drug addict, 2 different things! Mani knows alot of her FB friends are Prince fans, she just wanted to get some attention on her and EB and off of Prince and Misty.

Of course Mani could have just been making a joke at Prince's expense and not meant anything by it. Who knows, I just think it was poor taste and not to be taken seriously at all. Especially if that is what people are basing their opinion on.

LOL I commend him too, its great he's giving to charity. I guess he's pulling a "robin hood." Giving the money the lawyer's claim he owes them to needy children. Clever move on his part, will it work to make him look like "a saint?" IDK!!

I do see similarities between Prince and his father,...Positive and negative. And I give value to what Miles Davis said, I just don't think he meant 'crazy" in the clinical sense. I'd like to know where he said it so I could read the text he was using it in.

The word "crazy" is used very lightly these days. I tend to hear "Prince don't talk to the media, he is crazy!" Or "Prince wears heels, he is crazy!" I mean really? Because you are weird or quirky or shy, you're crazy?

I'm not going to deny, Prince is a quirky little dude, but mentally ill? Mentally ill like he needs therapy or medicine? Are we thinking he has a chemical imbalance? Or just some issues because of how he grew up (mental/physical abuse, abandonment, etc)? I definately think Prince has some "issues" because of how he grew up, but I don't think he has any mental "illnesses."

Honestly, there aren't many celebs on his level that have handled the business as well as he has. Most completely loose it, get on drugs, get arrested, etc. etc. etc.

I remember once seeing Shelia E on Larry King talking about one of her charity's (I'm sure you guys saw this at least some of you- it was around 2006) it was for abused children or something and she was mentioning all of her celebrity friends who she was so proud of for stepping up and helping her with this charity and donating money- she mentioned alot of "Prince associated people" and I kept waiting to see if she mentioned Prince, but she never did.

There is no way you can judge how Prince donates to charity or not, moreso because he rarely advertises it. If you look at Sheila E's Elevate Hope site Prince is a founding donor.

Also, as others have said, there is a huge distinction between, "Prince? Man, that kid is crazy, just like his old man!" and "I genuinely believe that Prince suffers from a mental illness."

Finally, a question.

Would it change anything for you if it was revealed tomorrow that Prince did have some kind of label affixed (bipolar, OCD or similar)?

Would it change how you listened to his music? Would you be less likely to go to his concerts?

Apart from anything else, this thread is a disturbing example of why those who do have mental health problems have a much harder time living in our society than their actual condition would dictate.

Charlie Sheen needs help, not a bunch of people holding popcorn, watching the "Crazy Charlie" show. Speculating as to who might be next - be it Prince or anyone - is a sad reflection on our obsession with celebrity drama and occasional meltdown.

Prince is listed as a Founding donor so how does sheila e not mentioning his name mean anything when his name is listed right there on her website. Also didn'te he donate to proceeds from the 3121 perfume/concert package to Elevate Hope along with a few other organizations in Minneosota ? It is also well known that he had a Love4OneAnother charity going for awhile....sooooo perhaps I'm just not understanding what you are eluding too in your post?

Actually someone else said it before I did. I just carried it fourth based on what was started. I did a google search and did not find the reference in that particular book. Perhaps the original poster can shed some light?
