I was lucky enough to meet Duane when Prince played the Mill City Fest in the fall of 1999. He came into the bar I worked at (across the street from the main stage) and ordered a beer from me. His smile was so much like Prince's that I knew right away it was his brother.

The first thing I said, with a smile, was, "You're his brother aren't you?" We both knew who we were talking about without even saying his name. We only talked for a few minutes, but I can tell you he was a total gentleman, charming, quiet, and seemed easy going. I don't know where he lived but he said he was in town for the concert. I was lucky enough to see that family charm and shyness, that Prince seems to have. I bought both his beers and told him how much of a fan I was of his brother's music and glad he came in. He didn't mingle at all with anyone, just sat and had a couple beers.

But I'll never forget his smile. Not because he reminded me of his brother - that was obvious, but that he was a very sweet man.

Beyond that, I didn't know much about him. My heart goes out to his family.

That is what I thought also. Was he half brothers on his father side? Prince and Duane did resemble each other even as kids.

Duane worked for Prince from 1988-1995 as security and ran the NPG store in Minneapolis. I was able to get into a lot of private parties through him. Wherever Prince was, Duane was not far. There was a video room at the NPG store and he invited me and a couple of my friends to watch some unreleased vids at the time after hours, he was very cool like that. [Snip - luv4u]

Does anyone know how many brothers Prince has. The picture shown(with Prince circa 1994?) didn't quite look like the man I talked to in 1999, but maybe he cut his hair, shaved the mustache, etc. Just wondering.

Only two others, as far as I know. John and Omar.

I've often heard people in mourning say how much they enjoy hearing stories about their deceased loved one. So nice of you to share your personal story with all of us. God bless the Nelson family.
